jonthawk
I know it's close to the deadline, but Northwestern's grad school application has an optional "diversity statement." How important is this statement, and (since I'm not "diverse" in any clear way) what kinds of things could I say?
publicaffairsny
I know it's close to the deadline, but Northwestern's grad school application has an optional "diversity statement." How important is this statement, and (since I'm not "diverse" in any clear way) what kinds of things could I say? It seems you are oriented towards development with your thesis and key writers focused on issues related to poverty. Also, In your work as a financial literacy advisor you probably encountered socioeconomic issues in a personal way. If you can identify no clear argument for your own diversity, I would talk about how your research interests and experience doing anti-poverty work enhanced your awareness of diversity and how it fits into your ideology. Anyways, there is some indication from previous threads that this statement may only be used for the allocation of fellowships to people from disadvantaged backgrounds, so It may not make any difference.
