Erin
I work with a lot of California high school students applying to the UC system. Seems like there's a much higher number of applicants getting put on waiting lists rather than straight admits. UC Berkeley waitlist statistics for first-time, degree-seeking freshpeople from the Fall of 2015 (source): Number of applications offered a place on waitlist: 3,760 Number of applicants accepting place on waitlist: 2,445 Number accepted from waitlist: 1,340 In a previous year (unspecified): 2143 waitlisted; 437 offered admission from waitlist. It also appears that in 2013, UC Berkeley offered only 200 waitlist spots to applicants.
