basco
I am tired of this - and I am tired a lot. I have applied in 2 cycles, and got rejected so far in every single school I applied. My advisors, letter writers, professors all cannot understand why, but it happens. I know the luck and bla bla bla blaaaa but this is goddamn depressing. I want to punch in the face every single person who just says "Dont worry, its random, you will get in!" I am really tired of it. How do I repel these people? I just told a very close friend of mine to just go **** himself because he repeated the useless advice.
Wahasky
Honestly I get it but what else can they say? They're just trying to be there for you, and even though it's not helpful there's really not a whole let else to do. Best thing might be to just not bring it up/talk about it for now. SnacksHarrison
The only way to avoid this is to not tell people what you're going through. Avoid the subject unless talking to other people who have applied/are applying.
rtj
Don’t become bitter because of outcomes you can’t totally control in life. Your friends are being supportive, and your friendships are more important than getting into a PhD. Keep grinding with a good attitude. therealslimkt
Just don't talk to people about the process.
TheDeadFlagBlue
Getting waitlisted by Yale is a great outcome. If that happens at one top 10 program out of 3 (?) that have announced thus far, I think that in expectation you will end up attending one. This is a different message than saying "don't worry". If you had been rejected by 3, that would be devastating but a waitlist is actually good out of 3 decisions!
