Tough times for SAT test-takers in California

You may have heard that the University of California is currently not considering SAT scores or ACT scores as part of their decision to admit students.

However, that doesn't mean that students in California no longer have to take the SAT or ACT. In fact, students still need to submit standardized test scores for consideration when they apply to many other colleges in the United States.

Because of the drop in demand for these tests, as well as challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, public schools in San Francisco are not hosting standardized tests this year.

This means that if you need to take the SAT to apply to college in 2021 or 2022 in San Francisco, you will have a very hard time finding a seat. I have checked several times in the last two months, and for the fall of 2021, the only spots available were several hours away, for example, in Southern California or Humboldt County!

More than ever, if you're planning to apply to college from California, you really need to plan ahead.
