What's going on with the Columbia rejections today (GC)? I didn't get an interview, but my portal is unchanged.

I'm in the same boat. Got no interview so I assumed IR, but no rejection today either. Anyway, I don't wanna get hopeful for nothing so for now my expectations haven't really changed.

Same. My best guess is that they're sending waves of rejections, but I'm not sure why they would do that.

I would have assumed this too, but I have a friend who did not get an interview at Columbia or UC San Diego and was waitlisted by both. I have a theory they might not be using interviews to determine who they really want in their class, but rather to determine if people they are interested in (and maybe people who they are skeptical will actually come) are actually interested in the program.

Very interesting. Was that in this cycle?

Didn't receive this batch of rejection but also didn't do the interview. What's happening with Wisconsin?

Anyone got accepted there?

Anybody else in the situation of results not matching up at all with advisors' expectations? Current Fed RA, applied to 20 US programs (14 Top 20 Econ programs, because my advisors thought I would land in 11-20 range, Harvard Kennedy, 4 Econ programs in 21-30 range, and 1 program in 30-50 range). So far, waitlisted by one T30, rejected by 12, 7 pending.

Almost the same background and strategy as you. Now only 1 wl from top 20 and tons of rejections.

You aren’t alone. I’m underperforming my advisors’ expectations by ~5-7 universities in the typical program rankings.

Hey everyone,

I’m getting a little concerned with the radio silence from many departments now that we are in March. Based on GradCafe, some of the schools I had applied to have already sent out acceptances. Would it be appropriate for me to email them to inquire about my status?

Also, there are a few programs that don’t seem to have released any decisions yet (again, according to GradCafe). Would you recommend reaching out to them as well?

Or would you recommend just sitting tight and waiting for April 15th? Honestly, I just want to end this constant cycle of checking emails. 😅 Would love to hear your thoughts!

Yeah, I think it's a good idea to email them if they are programs you're super interested in hearing back from. I would probably do it anonymously, though (i.e. use an alt email account and say "I haven't received any update on my status yet—should I assume I did not receive an offer?"). I'd be interested in what they say if you do hear back, so feel free to post here. 🙂

Not sure I'd recommend reaching out at this stage yet. There's still well over a month before April 15th, and even last cycle there were plenty of schools that hadn't released at this time. I believe some schools are behind schedule trying to figure out what is going on with funding, so giving them a couple extra weeks seems smart.

Obviously don't wait until April 15th, but emailing schools the first week of April if you haven't heard from them at all seems like a much better course of action.
