Hello, any update from UNC? When will rejections be out? If I havenot been interviewd, is there any chance to be selected?

Hi! I was interviewed in mid-February and was placed on the waitlist on March 20th.  I’m not sure whether the interview is a necessary step for admission. It seemed to me that the wording of UNC’s interview email wasn’t particularly strict or mandatory.

I also have friends who received interview invitations, and they still haven’t received any updates.

Has anyone still not received anything from LBS? Why do they have such a big gap between acceptances and rejections?

Me. At first I had the impression that no interview meant silent rejection, but I also have the impression that has been a lot since the wave of rejections and acceptances. This ranks very high in my preferences so I hope we are still in the game. If anyone has information about LBS please share.

I've seen a few others here who have also heard nothing from Wisconsin-Madison. I know their visit day is coming up soon as well (March 27th?). Does that mean we are likely rejected or waitlisted? A few of my friends received an official email letting them know they were rejected, but I received nothing. I was thinking of emailing them on Monday to ask about my application status since it still says "Under Program Review". What do you all think?

I have also received nothing. Did you hear anything back from the program after email?

I emailed and was told that they completed an initial round of offers and that while my application is still under review, the number of remaining offers is limited. So I guess there's technically still hope, but I'm personally expecting to be rejected.

Two questions.

First, did they really cut the cohort size this year and accept less this year? Anyone can confirm this?

Second, could you share any info about waitlist?

are you asking whether the cuts are across the board? then, yes. Many universities cut their cohort size by like 50%. There's a trickle down effect.

@Crazy_Rich_Economist

I’m also curious about WLs. How late do waitlist offers come out? Do you have to withdraw pending or waitlisted applications once you accept somewhere? If you do get an offer from a waitlist after April 15 in the US, can you take it if you have already accepted somewhere else in the US?  Would this be acceptable? If you can do it, might it still hurt your post docs options or career?

Do either of you know more about waitlists?

Waitlists move a TON the day or so leading into the April 15th deadline, though unsure how much that will occur this year with smaller cohorts.

i believe if you accept an offer elsewhere, it is normally seen as courteous to go ahead and withdraw from other waitlists you are currently on. Helps programs know who they can still give offers to, and helps them communicate to others on the waitlist with accurate information. I think reneging on an offer is typically not viewed kindly at all, but I’ve heard of it happening. Grand scheme of things it probably doesn’t matter a ton, but be aware of who you might be pissing off later for later in your career.

Anyone who applied for Dual Programs at NW and was rejected from Econ and was accepted for MECS program?

Hasn’t Kellogg MECS already wrapped their admission stuff?

That’s what I’m confused about. How are applicants to the dual program handled with respect to their second option? Normally, MECS would have already released decisions before applicants hear back from their primary program.

But, since they have also sent a round of rejections, does "under review" kind of mean implicit waitlist?

It is okay to accept another offer. The rules have changed on this in the last few years. Just decline the first offer VERY politely.

@startz

Thank you.

So is it okay to accept an offer, withdraw any pending/IRs, withdraw non-dominating offers, and stay on a waitlist elsewhere?
