hikaru
The expected rise in the price of oil could be a serious impact to industrialized nations and severely diminish the possibility to have an economy free of inflation. (A) be a serious impact to industrialized nations and severely diminish the possibility to have (B) seriously impact on industrialized nations and severely impede the possibility to have © seriously impact on industrialized nations and severely impede the possibility of having (D) have a serious impact on industrialized nations and severely impede the possibility to have (E) have a serious impact on industrialized nations and severely diminish the possibility of having correct answer is E. I eliminate A,B, and C because it's not parallel (noun "impact" and verb "impede"). What's wrong with D? Is it because of the idiom "the possibility to..."? :hmm:  sorry, there is an error while I post this thread. So I posted another time. pams
D is wrong because 'possibility to have' is unidiomatic
koolhunk19
'possibility of having' is idiomatic....C,E left.. As the rise is expected...we cant use the past tense 'could seriously impact on....' 'E' is the answer...
