Does formal education induce narrow-mindedness as opposed encouraging one to think freely? Iagree that when a school presents apolitical issue they don’t go into as much factual detail as they should toinduce an informed stance from the student However I do feel that with formal teaching theinstructor doesn’t have time to really get into specifics.

Schools typically discuss general factual information on history and politics. Some studentsrepresenting minorities feel like they are missing out on learning about significantacheivements of their minority but the fact of the matter is once they graduatehigh school, there is nothing stopping them from taking a specialized classlike African American history.

Formal education also includes Mathematics and English whichhelps one better themselves no matter what. If one can’t do basic mathematics, it would leave them more susceptibleto getting swindled out of money when making purchases. Without English, howcan one write a letter with proper grammer and punctuation. Some students want to get into fields like biology andnursing which would make science essential .

In conclusion, it’s clear that formal education doesn’trestrain our minds but helps to build the foundation for one’s education. Ifone wants to pursue a class on their culture for more specific informationafter high school then they should do it and the other three general subjectsas discussed are essential for one’s success in life. If anything, formaleducation helps the student decide what he/she would like to further learn oncehe/she is finished with the formal education.
