Please evaluate my Arguement essay

The following is a memorandum from the business manager of WLSS television station.

"Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increasingly more time to covering national news and less time to covering weather and local news. During the same time period, most of the complaints we received from viewers were concerned with the station's coverage of weather and local news. In addition, several local businesses that used to run advertisements during our late-night news program have just cancelled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to our news programs and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should expand the coverage of weather and local news on all our news programs."

 

 

The argument presented by the business manager is flawed and doesn't give any reasons to support it. Firstly, the arguement doesn't seem to support how the advertising contracts are related with the local news shown. The advertising contracts were with the late night news and not particularly with the local and weather news. The time devoted to the late night news progarm is not mentioned if it has decreasede less advertisemants shown than befor or that there ar. Maybe the advertisers didn't gain any profit advertising with the televsion station. Even if the time devoted to weather and local news is increased it doesn't mention that how it will affect the advertisers. For the arguement to be true the business manager should have mentioned how the advertisers are related with the time alloted to the late-night news program.

 

 

Secondly, the arguement fails to mention how increasing the time for weather and local news can increase the viewership. It only says that that the station received the complaints from the viewers regarding local and weather news. What if the quality of the weather and local news went down and thus viewership was decreasing. The busisness manager should clarify that the viewers are more interested in local and weather news rather than the national news and also the quality of the programming has not gone down for the arguement to be true.

 

 

Also viewers mind-set must have changed in the past 1 year. The people have started watching other programs instead of late-night news program. The business manager should clarify that the viewers are most interested in the weather and local news.

 

 

For all the reasons mentioned above the arguement is flawed and only if the manager provides even more insight into the problems the arguement can't be considered as true.
