EVERY NATION SHOULD REQUIRE STUDENTS TO STUDY AT LEAST ONE FOREIGN LANGUAGE FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL

Foreign language has become a must to sustain in this inter-connected world. Studying it can be a valuable component of a balanced education. But the importance of studying a foreign language might vary from one nation to another. It is going too far in emphasizing to make it compulsory.

Different countries have different needs and circumstances. For instance, developed nations such as United States and China don't seem to learn any new language than smaller countries do. People of U.S. and China never leave their countries. On the contrary, countries like India, Pakistan etc where the national language is other than internationally known language, curricula needs to incorporate a foreign language.

Only deciding that a foreign language needs to be added in the course structure is not sufficient. Adequate resources such as advance schools, a teacher having good knowledge etc are some of the basic requirements. In some nations, it is not practical to teach a new language as they lack these necessary resources. Such nations barely have schools of any kind, so foreign language instruction hardly seems any priority. In some nations, it would be very difficult to find even a foreign language teacher.

Another important factor is that not all students are the same-some might be able to cope up well with an additional subject, but the few who are struggling with basic skills necessary for their adult life should be waived from foreign language requirement. Also, who will decide which language is mandatory? It might be possible that a country's primary language is already an international language.

A nation's pride lies in its culture. If a nation's primary language is in danger of dying out would never prefer to teach a foreign language in their citizens.

While a reasonable person might think that incorporating a foreign language might not be a good idea, this is not the case all the time. Our world is becoming more connected. Most people who end up building an international business, or who emigrates to new lands, don't know that they are going to do so. They are not mature enough to decide whether to learn a foreign language. In this case, it would be best to require foreign languages so that the students are prepared for whatever happens in their adult lives.

Nations whose economies are inter dependent, require a common language for better communication, but there many developing countries who might not consider teaching a foreign language a priority. All in all, discretion should be allowed so that every nation has an option.
