Others believe that the only responsibility of corporations, provided they operate within law, is to make as much money as possible. write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position address both of the views presented. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I believe that corporations should take up the responsibility of promoting the well-being of societies and environment in which they operate rather than being profit and money oriented. In the current world, people have become so busy that they don't even have time to think about other beings, leave alone well-being of others, corporations have more responsibility towards society and environment than ever. Definitely, caring about society and environment is of moral importance but it has various other advantages also. For developing the society, consider constructing primary schools for kids of workers which provide knowledge for free or for minimum fee. The workers of that industry, mainly labour workforce, who can't afford education for their children otherwise, will find this facility very helpful. Because of this, the corporation earns good will of the workers and local people which helps them in acquiring motivated and driven workers for the company. Definitely if I am in such a situation where i can't afford to send my kid to school, I will work for that company and provide my kid the best of education he can get and I will also be loyal to the company forever. Sametime, workers from the corporation which is not interested in social service find it tempting to leave their current job and join the organization which provide them basic benefits like school for their children. Sure the former organization might hire new workers but eventually they also leave and this problem continues. Secondly, inherently industries cause a lot of pollution. Some take up measures to counteract the pollution and harm they are causing to the environment and some don't care. If I have an industry, i would definitely chose the former style. Again, like before, taking care of environment that we live in everyday has inherent moral value as well as some advantages. Suppose an industry is polluting the near by river, by discharging the effluents into the river directly without treating them. The people who live in the banks of that river, face severe health problems and complain to the government to shut down the company responsible. Even the government, keeping in mind the well being of its people discharge notices to the company to either shut down, or imposes severe penalty and then imbed required facility to treat waste water. So according to me, a corporation which is socially and environmentally responsible is more benefitted and also beneficial to society in which it is accommodated.
