Gerter
This may have been mentioned before but I haven't seen it... Some people on here tend to know quite a lot of stuff regarding the characteristics of schools, e.g. Minnesota's strength lies in macro, Chicago has a lot of dropouts in year one. So I thought it would be helpful to have a list of top 10/20/50 econ phd programs with their basic characteristics. For instance if someone is interested in micro he can filter schools in a given range that are good at micro. I've seen some ranking (on Econphd I think?) that lists fields of respective schools but for top schools it basically includes all econ sub-disciplines. Although schools like Harvard are obviously dominant in most fields, it would be good to know what schools in a similar range (+/- 5 in rankings) specialize in. Does anyone know of such a list? Obvious interesting things to see would be department specialty, ranking, average no. of admits (abs. and %), dropout-% in 1st year, etc. Any takers? untitled
Some of this info for some schools is at econspace, I think. Much more could be contributed...
unitroot
This sort of information is in a constant flux, I am not sure if the web site will be up to date for long.
breakz
Some of this is word-of-mouth, some requires research. For example, I don't think Chicago is the "gambler" of PhD programs anymore...but it still has that reputation. For all of the IDEAS stuff, you're better off spending the time at IDEAS yourself.
