181 The way students and scholars interpret the materials they work with in their academic fields is more a matter of personality than of training. Different interpretations come about when people with different personalities look at exactly the same objects, facts, data, or events and see different things.

181. "The way students and scholars interpret the materials they work with in their academic fields is more a matter of personality than of training. Different interpretations come about when people with different personalities look at exactly the same objects, facts, data, or events and see different things."

There is a growing public concern over whether the way students and scholars interpret the materials they work with in their academic fields is a matter of personality or of training. The speaker in the title statement claims that it is the students' and scholars' personalities matters the way they interpret the materials they work within their academic fields. In contrast, some people may argue that training plays a more essential role in interpreting the materials confronted with. On balance, I am inclined to side with the former opinion.

To start off, the personality of curiosity inside a scholar may be essential for him or her to succeed in the following time. This kind of personality ensures the scientist sensitivity to a certain phenomenon. Why there were so many physicists in Newton's time but only he had discovered the law of gravity? It is all owing to his curiosity about why the apple can fall down the tree and hit him in the head. The British economist Keynes had ever said," Jovons saw the kettle boil and cried out with the delighted voice of a child; Marshal too had seen the kettle boil and sat down silently to build an engine." This strongly indicates the significant role the curiosity plays in the searching of truth. If it were not for Marshal and Watt who had improve the efficiency of the engine a great deal, human societies would not go into the first industrial revolution and the following affairs based on the invention. Therefore, it is obvious to see that how important a role the personality plays in the success of a scholar and hence the students who pursue for the truth.

In addition, another personality that may affect the scientists a lot is never to give up. This kind of personality makes researchers to stick to what he or she believes to be true and it is hard to yield him or her to abandon his/her principles

When the greatest American inventor Thomas Edison the way he made the electrical light is a correct one, he adhered to his believe to try thousands of times. Finally, he was proved to be true and had made such a great invention which impelled the human civilization to the electric time. This case in point shows us the significance of sticking to ones' own beliefs which the scientists believe to be true and carry it out effortlessly.

Last but not least, people should never trivialize the importance of training. It is basic skills that any students and scholar should have. In other words, training in a certain academic field is the fundamental of the personalities. For one thing, Empirical evidence already clarify my claim that without knowledge in that area, no one can make an in-depth research into anything, not mentioned the personality one should have in researching. For another, scientist should have the knowledge of the related areas so that he or she could understand his or her own academic field more thoroughly and make a better insight into the way how to attain his/her goal. For example, it is terrible for any scholar, no matter what academic field he or she is in, to know nothing about computers. It is so important the computer knowledge is that it becomes the basic skill in the 21st century. If a scholar wants to do some researches, he or she would inevitably go to the internet to look for some useful information. Even more, sometimes, some knowledge about how to use certain software is of much more value. Hence, training in the major field of the scientist and the related area is more and more important in modern society.

In sum, it is very likely that people will never be able to arrive at the same conclusion on this controversial issue due to different experiences and conflicting values. Nevertheless, the above-discussed reasons should to large extent justify my claim that personalities are of more values for a scientist in researching in his/her academic field, but we should never ignore the importance of training in that field and the related fields.
