a user
Once the economic and social usefulness of the motor car was demonstrated and with its superiority to the horse being proved, much of the early hostility to it in rural regions disappeared. (A) and with its superiority to the horse being (B) and its superiority over the horse had been © and its superiority to the horse (D) its superiority over the horse (E) with its superiority to the horse having been The answer is C. However I have a reservation about this choice. Should we need add a "was" before proved. In other words, C should be state as following: © and its superiority to the horse was Right???? Erin
No, the sentence is correct if we choose C. In this case of "ellipsis" (leaving out part of the sentence), we are omitting the verb because it is the same. This is correct and quite common, and of course, GMAT will use it to make you think that the sentence is incorrect. HTH!! Erin Please post further questions here.
