Jaela99
Hello, I think University of Kansas is best for you instead of University of Alabama and Lawrence is cheapest city for living.

oldprogrammer
According to US News graduate rankings, Kansas is ranked 64th out of 100, whereas Alabama is unranked. The US News reputation-based ranking is not everything, but this represents a clear difference.
zshfryoh1
The AMS divides all PhD granting math departments into 3 tiers based in the 1995 NRC data. They have Alabama-Tuscaloosa as a tier 3 (lowest tier) and have Kansas-Lawrence unranked due to them not being included in the 1995 NRC, but given where they are in the US News rankings, they probably would be a tier 2.
