vanstar
Can you recommend some excellent econ undergraduate programs besides Havard, Princeton(top ten) etc. which have good reputation in placing their students to top econ graduate programs. Resident Mario
Two things: 1) I'd warn against planning so far into the future, seeing as how untold numbers of prospective econ students branch off into finance and other non-research fields in undergraduate. Do you really know what you want to be studying for the next ten years not yet out of high school? 2) Anywhere will do, look at ranking and find places you're comfortable with and have good chances of attending. Ranking matters a lot in your choice of graduate school, but at the undergraduate level it very quickly hits the point of diminishing returns. publicaffairsny
From the results discussed on here I would say choose a university with a phd program over a liberal arts college.
econphd14
Don't worry too much. Almost all prestigious (non-specialized) universities in the US have fairly prestigious economics departments. Outside the US, the flagship university in many countries successfully places many students into economics PhDs. Surely, there are a few exceptions, but there's not too much to worry about. Alternatively, there are a number of liberal arts colleges known for producing economics PhDs. Lastly, you could apply directly to specialized universities, where allowed, focusing on business schools, social science schools, or schools known for strong mathematical preparation. All in all, you should try to attend the best university you can. Edited September 25, 2014 by econphd14

startz
In the US: top50 us news econ department. Outside the US: top school in your country Top liberal arts colleges likely place as well as very large top50 US News econ departments as students get more individual attention. Outside the U.S. I suspect that the top several schools do quite well in Canada, U.K., and some other countries.
