Thank you. :grad: ---------------------------------------------------------------- How does advertising influence people's behavior? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer. Many businesses use advertisements to promote the sales of their products. We hear advertisements on the radio, read about them in magazines and websites, and watch them on the television. Advertisements always show a positive, happy effect of using a certain product. Most of the time, these advertisements attract the potential customers, and push them to buy the products advertised. When we watch an advertisement of a happy family eating a box of cereals and having a great day with lots of joy and happiness, we tend to think that their whole day was filled with happiness because of that box of cereals. Not only are we tempted to buy the same brand of cereals, we also try to put on a happy outlook in the mornings while having the cereals. This shows that such advertisements that express a positive outlook about life makes us want to have the same kind of happy life. However, advertisements can also lead to danger. One such example could be an advertisement for a car, where the driver is driving at an extremely fast speed, and because the people around him are in awe of his amazing car, he becomes popular, with all the girls attracted to him, and even the traffic police does not penalise him for his speed. This may lead to the customers being influenced in the wrong way, they might be driven to think that they could drive as fast as they want if they had that car. This could lead to danger and cause lives. Advertisements can have a positive or a negative effect on viewers, depending on how the products are used in the advertisment. nechitoaia Posted September 9, 2004 Share Posted September 9, 2004 I am certainly not a specialist, so it`s a great chance that i am mistaken. But just thinking that it may help a bit, perhaps you should state in the first paragraph the idea of your essay, that is, if you think that the people are influenced in a positive , negative or mixed manner, and how this is done. You`re saying in the first paragraph just how advertising make people buy all those things, which is just a part of their behaviour, as you`ve very well emphasized in the following paragraphs.
