  1. btw just to confirm: colleges don't care which SAT II's you take right? I'm probably taking math IIC, bio, and chem. Will this setup work for the majority of uni's, including ivies like havard/pton/upenn and others? about that undergrad business thing: well, if i can't get into HYPS and Upenn, then i'll go for ones with NYU.
  2. grammatix doesn't really include anything kaplan/PR doesn't already. it just emphasizes them more.
  3. k so how would you guys tackle this question? error identification, * * means underline Soem of the workers *who resent* the supervisor's authority *would probably* feel uncomfortable *if* they were to acquire the independence that *they demand* *no error* I'm confused about the switching of tenses in this sentence. like you start off with the present tense, resent, then you go into were, and then back into demand... the answer is no error, btw
  4. ya but the problem is, i don't KNOW american history. i don't think i've studied any specific american history in high school, or to any extent in junior high. I also doubt i'd be able to do world history... i'm bad at lit, especially poetry. oh and ya, i'll try my best to sell myself. like mostly thru volunteering hours, work experience, marks, and school clubs. Update: i talked with my friend, who is going to NYU this year, and i've decided not to take a spare, but to take 2 easy (hopefully) grade 12 options. in my case, keyboarding 301 and financial management 301. but the dillemma that neither he or I can solve is whether to take these two options in the first or 2nd semester. See, he said that if i take english instead of the 2 options in the first semester, there will be an advantage when uni's are looking at my school + SAT marks, because if i do well in english class, but not so well in the SATs, the uni will see that i don't completely suck at english. but of course, the draw back to this is i get more work (essays, novel studies and whatnot), and get less sat prep. whats you guy's opinions on this? ps: are there other good SAT/college forums out there?
  5. i'm going into grade 12 next year (senior), in canada. i will be taking 7 academic core subjects, math, pre-calc, social studies, english, bio, chem, physics. I'm in a semester system, so up to 4 cores in 1 semester, and 4 in the other. Currently i'm leaning towards this setup: 1st semester: math, bio, chem 2nd semester: pre-calc, social, english, physics the reason is that i want max time to study for the SAT Is in the first semester, so i might be taking a spare (meaning no class in that time slot). Also, i want to take Math 2, bio, and chem for my SAT IIs. I'm going into business/finance in uni. but heres the thing: Will by taking only 3 courses in the first semester, therefore only submitting 3 complete marks, make your uni application look bad? like if someone else has 4 marks or whatnot. Also, would it be wise to take a spare, cause i read from harvard/princeton's sites that they want students who maximize their work load, make me look lazy? or will they not care? thank you
  6. ya, i read something on harvard's application form too. like they require your MID year report card. meaning all your final marks for any courses you've taken during the first semester.
  7. do you guys know if study hall has ALL of the tests? cause currently, they only have 2, free, ones for the new sat. yet they have all of the old 10 real sats for free.
  8. hmm study hall has 2 sets of explanations for the 1st and 2nd practice test. they seem pretty short. anyone can judge if these are better than test master's? also, since they have all the explanations for the 10 real sats, but only 2 for the new sats, does this mean that even if i registered, they would only have 2 sets of explanatiosn?
  9. well i just ordered a copy of the test masters from amazon. but it might take up to 3 weeks to get to me  not a good idea considering i'm studying mainly during the summer. however, i can still cancel the order... if theres another place that can ship it sooner or if theres a completely different solution to this problem. btw testmasters.com doesn't ship to canada, so too bad. also, i don't wana spend 70$ on the collegeboard.com's online course thx
  10. damn. thx for the link. i was just about to hit order on amazon.com. test master's sells it for like 7bux cheaper. nvm, doesn't ship to canada...
  11. i've been experimenting with a new technique. thats reading it carefully, at regular speed, and try to understand the passage to a greater detail compared to skimming. then when i hit the questions, i try not to look back at passage unless i need confirmation, or if i don't get the passage at all. this method actually saves me like 5 minutes compared to skimming. Its not unusual for me to finish a set with like 5-7 minutes left. as for effectiveness, well, its just about or a little lower than skimming. but keep in mind that i've only been doing this for like 3 test sets.
  12. we all know that blue collegeboard book doesn't come with explanations for its 8 practice tests... so i'm looking for the test masters one with the keys. please, price it cheaper than amazon.com?
  13. this is what i know so far: would: past of will, showing future in a past context will: future, showing future in a present context yet i always hear people saying would in a present context. whaa?? like i would like to, etc etc are these two words interchangeable sometimes or what?
  14. Hi I'm going into grade 12 (senior year, here in Canada), after this summer. I'll be taking the SAT I's this Oct, and probably SAT II's this nov and/or dec and, perhaps, even january if desparately needed. i heard that there are separate deadlines for applying for college, and sending SAT scores. true? if so, when should i apply? since i'm in a semester school system, i only get final grades for my courses in mid-late january... Also, when i apply, do i need to write those dang essays to each school? or do i only write those when they are interested in me or something thx
