  7. When the choices are close, careful reading is required. Choice D says that the paramedics are assumed to be competent in most of the work done by nurses. The passage never says this. It only says that only some of the work will be done by the paramedics. There is definitely a difference and therefore enough reason to rule choice D out.
  8. Firstly, a few examples in literature found on the net: ...who is polite and naturally clever, though far from a well educated man. . ...allows a beautiful, though far from obvious, ...this view remains widespread, though far from uncontested. One can cite a lot more. It is not necessary that they represent different shades. What the sentence would mean is notwithstanding the fact that the occurrence is common it provides amusement. This seems appropriate because we are not amused in general by something that we routinely see happening. Also, the meanings are not closely tied. Secondly, ...This allows suboptimal performers to escape acquisition by firms whose managers ....help the Italian company escape acquisition by Olivetti Considering along the above lines, the sentence would read ...maturity escapes acquisition by humans I don't think there is anything missing in the sentence.
  9. I think if you get the intuition that the difference of their ages is a constant you can solve it more easily. Let the age of Chris be ch and that of Craig be cr. We have at present, ch + cg=90--(1) Remember cg-ch is a constant. Now let's get the other equation by reasoning backwards. Chris(a) is half as old as Craig(a) will be when Chris(b) is twice as old as Craig (b) was when Chris© was half as old as Craig© is now. The number within parenthesis corresponds to the different times their age was computed. At this point, that is at point© ch=cg/2 At point (b), Craig was cg/2 + (cg-ch) ---(2) Now, Chris is half as old as Craig will be when Chris is twice as old as Craig was when Chris was half as old as Craig is now. Using (2) we have at point (b), ch= 2(cg/2 + (cg-ch)) Now, Chris is half as old as Craig will be when Chris is twice as old as Craig was when Chris was half as old as Craig is now. At point (a) craig is, cg= 2(cg/2 +(cg-ch)) + cg-ch At point (a) chris is ch= (2(cg/2 +(cg-ch)) +cg-ch)/2 2ch=cg+2cg-2ch+cg-ch or 5ch=4cg.----(3) From (1) and (3) we have ch=40, cg=50 I think the problem is primarily a test of your comprehension skills besides a little intuition. If you use trial and error you could solve it mentally provided you correctly understand the problem.
  10. Answer: B Paraphrased in simple terms: It is funny that people derive satisfaction from silly actions. However it happens to be a common occurrence. People are yet to develop mature thinking or in other words maturity eludes them.
  11. Being fanatic is showing irrational fervor. Irrationality is indeed an undesirable quality.
  12. It is funny, though far from ---------, that great satisfactions are derived from silly actions. It seems maturity adroitly ----------- acquisition by humans. a. justified, rejects b. anomalous, escapes c. serious, acquiesces d. surprising, abandons e. acceptable, spurns
  13. Answers:A,C 1. You are being X when Y is absent. It is not B or C because neither the absence of apathy means being passionate nor the absence of respect ( contrasted with disrespect i.e. you can be respectful, disrespectful or show neither) doesn't mean being profane. 2. Y is the intense and undesirable form of X. Being undesirable is essential that's why other choices can be ruled out. Also X is a positive attribute.
  14. I don't think the OA is correct. Choice B fails to present a strong cause-effect relation. It is also not obvious how institutionalizing per se can make those who resist soften their stand. On the other hand something essential or indispensable is very likely not to cause resistance and thus as the creation of new knowledge becomes essential, the force or effect of the resistance reduces. As described, the resistance turns into a passive one which can definitely said to be less effective.
