  1. I'm going to attend UMD next fall too, looking for female roomate to share an apartment in Graduate Hills/Graduate Garden.
  2. maybe we can have a talk about this when we meet in the Admitted Student hold on march 27.
  3. great!!! see you there then!!! i have no friends there so the department will arrange two nights for me too.
  4. i'm an international student and i think i'll go to visit the university. anyone else is in the same situation? how many days are you planning to stay there? :hmm:
  5. hi, i may accept maryland's offer so i may move to washington DC. but i'm not aware of which area is that. But certainly the idea of find a roomate is in my mind. so, keep in touch.
  6. associate, i think it's amazin your job, exactly what i would like to work in the future. I'm persuing a Ph.D because of my love to economics, because i really don't like the academia style life. So, if UMD works on real world problems, it is the right place for me. I'm not interested at all publish in journals and teaching, if not i would like to solve real problems or try to solve some little issues. Nice to meet you really! Hope to have the chance to have you as classmate.
  7. associate, i've applied to harvard, chicago, columbia, princeton(rejected),yale(rejected), san diego (rejected), berkeley(rejected), UCLA,Michigan and British columbia in Vancouver. I have hope to receive some good news from chicago and columbia, but maybe without money. So, i'm looking forward these applications responses. So, where do you work? do you like it? how do you think a Ph.D will help you in your job? by the way, i'm from ARgentina.
  8. thank you associate, i think i'll email them after march 15th when i know better what will be my trip plan. hope can get 400$ anyway. by the way, what others programs are you applying to?
  9. hi associate thank you for all that useful info of housing and summer intern. respecting to the 400$, i meaned that i would fly to visit the university, but maybe won't be able to arrive there for the 27th march students day. Would that matter?
  10. andyecon, thank you for the info. I've been looking for that too, a friend of mine told me that 15k is enough to live there, because they usually share the house with someone else, so 400-500 goes to living, and 300-400 for meal, so maybe we can save some yet. I think i'm going to the student day also, even though i'm quite far away, Argentina, but considering that we will have to spend the next 5 years in a place, we'd better to have a better idea where is this place. Besides, it's a good idea talk to the graduate students there to know what will be the life there. So, see you there. P.S. i'm wondering if i can't make it to arrive 27 march, will they still pay me the 400 for the trip? And last question, did you reply their offer mail?
  11. i got the offer with 15k also. I'm wondering if this money is enough to live in Washington DC, i mean for meal, for living and personal stuff. what do you guys think about that? would you go for the Admitted Students Day 27 March???
  12. I was wondering if someone has received any notification from Harvard about the application, something like that they have already received all needed information and materials to let us sure that our application is complete. Thanks
  13. ish, thanks for your response. but my doubt isn't coming from the point if they will accept applicant of 3 years degree, if not i have a pararell degree which is 3 years, i have also 4 years bachalor degree in economics, but i want to declare that i have a pararell degree in computer science as complement to my main degree, but i have no idea how what's the name of the equivalent degree in US
  14. anyone know what's the equivalent degree in US of three years degree in computing science? thanks

  19. thanks to everybody!!! i'm so happy and feel so lucky. a friend of mine did the exam today and he had to cancel it because he couldn't finish 3 questions. I feel bad for him because i can imagine what he felt that moment, it's an awful feeling which i experienced strongly yesterday. I was also almost cancel my exam. fortunately i didn't. freethinker. i'm not sure which area i'm most interested in, i think macroeconomic is my favorite, but i'm not sure, because some topics of micro are also interesting like moral hazard, selection, contracts, etc. i think i'll apply to universities which are in good rank in overall area of economics. have you already picked the universities to apply to?
  20. thanks to all! i'm sorry that i wrote some post in spanish,. i just explained how i prepared quantitative part. i did not prepare for verbal and do not remember much from the exam. if you have more questions about the exam, just ask me! thanks to all again! hope have luch in the application process too!
  22. the nightmare finally finished. Today i had the most crazy experience in my life concerning about an exam. Because in Quantitative part i really felt that i did very bad, i was stucked in 15th question with less than 20 min for 13 left. after trying to solve the problem during 7 precious minutes i decided to guess on one and keep going, so i just picked one and next. however, this made me feel so unconfident about myself, so nervous that following questions seemed so difficult to me, and time is running just faster than usual, i had to deal with last 10 questions in 10 minutes. I almost decided to cancel the exam, but i thought if i have to retake the exam, i will be more nervous than now because of this awful experience, so just click on report the test. When i saw 800 in Q i couldn't believe it and also so relieved. Guys, i agree with people saying about that the real exam is tougher than PP, but i think the most part of the difficulty cames from the nervous and pressure you have during the exam. So, calm down and manage well your time. i'm applying for Econ Ph.D. i had 270 in toefl, do you think that my verbal part is too bad to be admitted in top 15 universities? I'm from argentina! finally, thanks to all people in this forum, you guys are so nice colaborating with each other and giving usuful advices.
