  1. Thank you KingOfConvenience for your quick reply. Anyone else with any idea?...
  2. Hi. I intend to pursue PhD in theoretical physics (applied for fall 2006). I am interested in elementary particle theory and string theory. I am an international student and just obtained a Bachelor degree in physics from a non-US univ. I have two options: Univ of Southern Calif and State Univ of New York at Stony Brook. I am not sure which one to select, even after going through the hp of faculty members and learning about their researches:rolleyes:. The USNews ranking places SUNY SB well above USC, but I don't know if I should place much importance on the rankings:hmm:. Any idea/experiences..? Thank you. p.s. I posted the same content as above in the "graduate admissions" section too. But it didn't seem to catch much attention there:( . So I am writing here again in the hope that more physics-related people visit this section.

  4. thank you insuspense, the links contain a lot of sample questions. should be helpful.
  5. Thank you, limitlesssky and misspiggy. This is going to be my first (and also last) interview, so I am a little tense. I'll try my best. Thank you panda77. I do not know if interview is a common practice in physics. I have also been accepted by SUNY Stony Brook, but there was no interview. However, thanks for your thoughts and sharing your experiences.
  6. Hello, I am an international student and applied for physics PhD. I received an email from a member of the admission committee of Univ of Southern Calif saying, 'Your application has caught my attention and I would like to talk to you.' It sounds like a telephone interview to me. Do you have any idea what kinds of questions might be asked, or what to expect:hmm: ? btw, the prof who mailed me specializes in condensed matter theory, while my proposed area was HEP, string theory. Does this mean that the interview is not supposed to be a very technical one? Thanks for your patience and time. I haven't yet replied to the email, thought I should ask you guys first....
  7. I'm taking GRE physics in Nov. I would be very grateful if you could send me the questions. Thanks... extrafornet@yahoo.com
