  1. I havent got my I-20 but I have heard fromothers taht its costs around $18k p.a for tuition. hope this helps.
  2. @thedog what do u mean by if i can spare some money...go to gatech? I couldnt understand when u said this followed by saying UMich is good for AI and stuf..can u please clarify
  3. Hello, I have been admitted to the CS PhD program at UMich with a fellowship(full waiver + $22800 p.a stipend) and MS CS in Gatech(no aid). I know that both univs are good. but I feel gatech is mariginally better, i may be wrong in saying mariginally, please correct me if i am wrong. I want to do a PhD ultimately. Where do u think I should go. My interests are in Theory(heard gatech is very good). But the only problem is gatech is a little expensive, though I feel I should be able to manage somehow. but is it worth it to miss a good fellowship offer from a college almost ranked equally? Please help me take a decision soon.
  4. I got a fellowship offer though..:)
  5. hi All! I am surely going to UMich for CS PhD..is anyone else going there?
  6. I had applied for the MS in CS to UMAA. But got a PhD admit:) from UMAA. I was notified by an email some 2-3 days back. Best of luck too all who applied to UMAA
  7. I would suggest UPenn. Its far too good to miss..Please do let us know how they informed u of the admits. I too have applied and so have many more and most of us are still in the dark with respect to the admit decisions.. please do reply ASAP regards, Pradeep
  8. Congrats!!!!! I would suggest UPenn!!! Please let us know how they informed u of the decision , I have also applied to UPenn. It will help a lot of us who are still waiting !!!!! regards, Pradeep

  10. Hi!! I heard from a few of my friends that they have made it to MIT CS PhD. They are from IIT Madras. So just wanted to share this info with u guys.. regards, Pradeep
  11. Hi!! I got a miserable 750 (58%) in AGRE(CS) http://www.edulix.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif. I really thought i would surely clear 800 with ease since i had been doing that comfortably in all my practice tests. How much will this affect my chances since i have already reported my scores to UMCP, Stan, UIUC, Gatech, Rutgers. I know i shouldnt have reported but i was really confident of notching a good score going by my practice tests. I am really distressed with this score http://www.edulix.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif. Please tell me who badly will it affect my chances? My profile: I have given my GRE and i have scored 1430 (800Q+630V)AWA 5.0. TOEFL : 263 TWE 6.0 CGPA: 8.5/10 (topper is 9.4) it comes to around 3.62/4.0 ( i guess this is pretty low, infact very low for the colleges i am trying) College : Anna university,MIT campus Summer Internship: I interned at Microsoft India for 8 weeks (not in my area of interest, but still i hope it will hold some value) and have taken part in many International online programming contests and won many. for instance I won the second place in ACM ICPC Asian Regional finals at Kolkata in a very strongly contested contest with teams from Singapore, Korea,Bangladesh, China. And as a result I will be participating in the WORLD FINALS of this event at San Antonia, Texas. 1.was placed 26th in the asian regionals of International collegiate programming contest.(ICPC) (top 5 teams were not from India) 2.won the annual programming contest at IIT Madras as part of Shaastra 2004 3. won the programming contests conducted by Indian association of Research and computing science.(IARCS) and many more contests. how useful are these results in programming contests. I have also organized an International programming contest and many more national level programming contests. Also conducted a programming contest for the Indian Linux user groups (ILUG) . It was truly international in the sense that there was immense participation from all over the world in the end it was won by the former world champion. Research experience : also worked under prof pandurangan of IIT Madras(former HOD) on steganography I also have done a few good projects in my area of interest (netowrk security, cryptography and steganography ) Recos: 1 from my HOD,2 others from lecturers in my college The recos are pretty strong. I have applied for MS in all the univs. And of course i dont plan to send my scores to any other univs... Please tell me how badly it will affect my chances in the univs where i have reported(gatech, Stan, UIUC, UMCP, Rutgers) regards, Pradeep ppl plzzzzzzzzzzz do reply since i am really worried abt my chances
  12. Are u sure abt the raw score? last year it wwas around 41 for 800 . So please do confirm if u are very sure.. By the way how long does it take for the AGRE score to reach us by postal mail in India. regards, Pradeep
  13. Hi!! Thanks to Quas and reactor for their comments.. But I also know that there are a lot of ppl from CS too here . Can they please comment on my chances too.. Btw Ms in Theory means MS in Theoretical Computer Science.(Algorithms, Theory of computation,..). regards, Pradeep
  14. Hi Folks, I have given a brief profile of mine below.. Please evaluate my chances in the univs i have mentioned below. I am applying for MS in Theory Fall 2006. Ultimately want to convert it into a Phd. Given my AGRE and expecting 750+ I have given my GRE and i have scored 1430 (800Q+630V). AWA 5.0 TOEFL : 263 essay 6.0 CGPA: 8.5/10 (topper is 9.4) it comes to around 3.62/4.0 ( i guess this is pretty low, infact very low for the colleges i am trying, please clarify) College : Anna university,MIT campus Summer Internship: I have done an internship at Microsoft India R&D (not in my area of interest, but still i hope it will hold some value) and have taken part in many International online programming contests and won many. for instance Won the 2nd place in the asian regionals of International collegiate programming contest.(ICPC 2005) at Kolkata with teams from all over china, Korea, Bangladesh, Singapore, India. Its actually an algorithms contest and not a mere programming contest. Consequently qualified for the WORLD FINALS(WF) OF ICPC to be held at San Antonia , Texas in April 2006. Only 80 teams from all around the world get to participate in the WF from over 6000 teams. Alot of big colleges(MIT, Caltech, Gatech, UMCP, Uwisc,Purdue) in the US are participating here. Research experience : also worked under prof pandurangan of IIT Madras(former HOD) on steganography I also have done a few good projects in my area of interest (algorithms, network security, cryptography and steganography ) my UNIV LIST: I AM NOT LOOKING FOR AID for 2 sems. 1. Stanford( cant resist my temptation!!!, i know its real hard) 2. UIUC 3. Gatech 4. Umaryland College park 5.UPenn 6.Umichigan Ann arbor 7.Purdue. 8.UCSD 9. UMass amherst(applied here alone for MS/ PHD) 10.SUNY SB 11. Rutgers 12. Uminnesota Twin cities. Please reply soon.. regards, Pradeep
