  1. I would say TAMU.....if CAD is your desired specialization...simply because in recent years, TAMU has developed a strong CAD group of 6 profs....the recent additions of Sunil Khatri, Jiang Hu and Peng Li has really enforced their CAD group...it goes without saying that all of them are great researchers.
  2. Hi Vlsiguy, Congats on an awesome admit and all the best. Did you apply for CompArch as part of the CS dept. at CMU? The CS dept. have their Open House between March 23-25. Robotics has it between March 25-27. I could not find any Open House for the ECE department. I understand that there is no point in being optimistic. Thanks anyway.
  3. Yeah, aesthetic ascetic...you are so right.....Ranga Vemuri is supposed to be a very big guy in VLSI CAD....he has a great reputation among even the best of researchers in the US.
  4. I was wondering how many of you have heard back from CMU ECE (specifically, CE) for PhD beginning Fall '06. Is there any timeline by which they release admission decisions? From what I inferred by visitng their website, they must be handing them out by March 31, 2006
  5. I think UWash is a fantastic school for CS/EE PhD (grad studies). Of course, engineering is just one field. The EE department has some highly renowned faculty (Hauck, Allstot, Shi, Soma, etc.). For overall engineering grad rankings, the following website has the rankings: http://myweb.usf.edu/~czhao/Engr/Engr.htm
  6. Are the USNews EE rankings posted on this website authentic? They certainly look so. http://myweb.usf.edu/~czhao/Engr/EE.htm
  7. Hi Praveen, A couple of things regarding your aplication. 1.) You definitely need to retake GRE to boost your Verbal score. 2.) You should highlight your probable publication (if necessary, aggrandize) And one more piece of advice....professors may turn the table on you any time.....don't trust them at all...sometimes they just want to attract applications, choose the best, and ditch the rest (even if they gave extremely positive replies in the beginning) Look for schools where your seniors are...they should have created a favorable reputation for your department.
  8. Hi, I am an international student in the US, about to complete my MS in a school that is B-tier, but very good in my field of specialization. My advisor is highly regarded in his field of expertise. Here is a summary of my profile:- Degree: MS GPA: 3.87 Rank: 3/30 Publications: 2 major (1 industrial during work ex. of 2 years) My undergrad GPA at IIT was 3.1/4. Do you think top schools like CMU will pay more importance to my grad GPA, and not haunt me for having a not-so-good GPA in my undergrad? I intend to apply for Fall 2006 to big schools like CMU. Please enlighten me if any of you have ideas (or have heard similar experiences).
