  1. vipul, all the univs you r applying to are very highly ranked. r you not applying to any safe univ??
  2. hey jaideep is it true that the [H1] visa scenario is getting better? i have heard from my husband just the opposite thing.
  3. Hi Vipul, Thanks. ya I applied for the Spring semester. I knew about the aid scenario in Spring, but I didn't wanna sit idle. I resigned from my job in jan 2003 as I got married in the same month and moved to US. If I had not applied for the Spring term, I would have to sit idle for almost one and half years which I didn't want. I applied to USC,UIC,TAMU,UTD,UTSA, and UT austin. I knew UT austin requires subject GRE but there was no date. I got rejection letter from UT Austin. Tamu will announce their decision in the end of Nov. I have been accepted in the rest of the universities I applied to. I am still not very sure which univ I am going to attend. abt the financial aid?? --- I don't know..may be I will try after starting the course. Lets see what happens... Ruby
  4. Hi Randhawa, As far as I know you can apply to more than 1 pgms in USC(u don't have to pay any extra appl fee). I applied to MSCS and MSCS-IR and have been accepted to both, but the aid scenario there is not at all good. I talked to some students there, but there is .000001% chance of getting any aid if you r a MS student We(my husband and I) live in Austin as he works here, so I was mostly interested in UT Austin. Although they require CS GRE, I couldn't submit my CS GRE Score as it was not conducted in bet april(when I decide to apply to grad schools)and sep(my deadline was on sep 1). Annyway, the bottom line is that I have been rejected. I thought of applying there again and thats why decided to take CS GRE, but yesterday I talked to them abt their reapplying process and found that they have reduced their intake(now it is atleast 1/3rd of what they used to take), so I don't think that I have any hope, and therefore dropped it. Thats all abt my poor luck Ruby
  5. Hi Jaideep, I have been accepted to the PhD program in UTD. My area of interest is AI. If you know, could you please tell me how is UTD in AI? Thanks Ruby
  6. Hi Randhawa, I dont know abt USC's PhD pgms but I know about their masters pgms. They r offering MSCS, MSCS in Multimedia, intelligent robotics, software engineering, networking security etc. If you visit http://www.cs.usc.edu, you will get to know abt them in details. Thanks Ruby
  7. ya you r right. UTA requires CS GRE, but as I didn't have time to take CS GRE, I applied for the Spring semester without submitting my CS GRE Score. Thanks for your reply, Ruby
  8. Hi Vinay and Randhawa, Thanks a lot for your suggestions. Good luck for your apps.. Ruby
  9. Hi Randhwa, I think UIC is not very difficult to get into. My GRE and TOEFL scores were not so good - GRE 1390 (V-620, Q- 770) and TOEFL 267, but I have been accepted there. I think you can get into it too. This is just my opinion. Thanks Ruby
  10. Hi All, I hope you will receive an excellent score! I am taking my AGRE on Dec 13. I did my Bachelors 3.5 years ago and just started studying for it yesterday. Do you think that 1 month is sufficient for it? Thanks Ruby
  11. Hi Gupta_v, You have mentioned in the last post that you have been able to get part time work in the ECE dept. Could you please tell me how to apply for such work.. I mean after starting the course or before it. Do I need to contact any professor? Waiting for your reply, Thanks Ruby

    H4 to F1

Hi, I am Ruby. I am also on H4 visa. I applied for this Spring semester and also got accepted. Now, they asked whether I want a fresh I-20 or I would like to go for a change of status I-20. I am in a dilemma, and don't know which one will be better option for me. On one hand, Change of status is safer than going to another country and applying for visa. On the other hand, I heard that change of status takes a long time and I won't be able to avail any assistanceship until I get my F-1. Could you please guide me? P.S. Radhika, I didn't understand what you have written. Actually, I don't have any idea about visa stuff. you told that you were able to get a change of status approved to an F1. So, if you go to your home country in December, why will you have to apply for a change of status to F1 stamped on your passport? If I apply for change of status, will I not be able to go to India before completion of my course? Radhika, Nilanjana, tinobulger, and others please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks and Regards, Ruby
