  1. gschmilinsky, my heartiest congrats to you. I never saw you here after 2006, when I was preparing for GMAT. As far as I remember, you were great at SC's:grad: Congrats, Haas and Columbia are awesome schools. I believe, Columbia it is for you
  2. Please let me know any REIT in India. Name just one Also, there are just a handful of PIO's in India when compared with hundreds and thousands in developed world. In Delhi only where I live there is just 1 reputed real estate fund called CIG, now known as Unitech realty fund. GMATbong: Pls also tell me what kind of role in Financial services industry will I be able to take. Could I get into private equity straight away?
  3. Hi GMATbong, This is Anshu here. tamGmat posted my profile. I have been into Real Estate investments, acquisitions and management. No development work till now. I'd like to explain the problems I am currently facing switching to development and why I want to do an MBA. I have actually approached venture capitalists and private investment organizations for investments in my development projects. But things haven't worked out. I feel they doubt my credibility being from an engineering background and my full time work in IT. My plan is to do an MBA from a top school. Work in a Finance or Consulting company focusing on Real Estate to get credibility and add a network of contacts with Real estate developers and REITs. A company like Goldman Sachs, Blackrock, Blackstone, Deutsche bank in finance side. or AT kearney in Consulting side because these companies have a focus on Real estate specially in emerging economies. I plan not more than 2 years of work ideally in Finance. but no absolutely sure This will really give me the confidence while negotiating big deals and getting investment for my company (I currently work part time as a Entrepreneur in real estate). It adds a lot of credibility to me as an Entrepreneur. I also expect Indian markets to mature a bit by that time. Currently there are no REITs in India and very few private investment orgs. Also, transparency is one big factor that is stopping foreign investors in investing in Tier II and Tier III cities where I want to do development. At school my interest is Real Estate, Finance and Entrpreneurship. Ross has actually got a certificate program in Real Estate and good Finance curriculum. I am also targetting Berkeley. Do you see any loopholes in my profile or my school selection. Which other schools would you suggest and also pls suggest if you would like to modify my story a bit for admissions sake. I look forward to hearing from you. Anshu
  4. This is a friend of mine. He could not find the link to the website, on his behalf" " GMAT: 710 V37 Q50 TOEFL: 280 CBT Education: Computer Engg, University of Delhi, India. First Class Founder of IEEE student chapter and held several positions in student run clubs. Award winner in an International robotic competition. Work Ex: Started a Real Estate investment firm in college third year. Doing this Part time for 4 years now. Have hired two real estate consultants. Basically, invest in upcoming properties in North India. Have raised more than USD 1 Million by selling and buying properties. Currently own more than 16,000 sq feet of developed area and working on a residential development project. Full Time: I have been working in a IT firm in Delhi. Working here since 3 years as Senior Engineer. One promotion. 2 awards and recognition by Director Engineering and Director Talent acquisition. Also represent company as Ambassador at company presentations. In future, I want to handle my real estate business. I have rented out most of the commercial and residential properties. After MBA, I want to work in real estate consulting firm handling projects in US, China and India. Long term ambition is to enter construction of malls and residential complexes in Tier II and Tier III cities in India. Extra Curricular: Oil and glass paintings, Table Tennis -- No awards as such but a small art gallery (personal) I liked Ross program but haven't done a detailed research. Please suggest which schools I should look for and what are the positives and negatives in my profile. One of the Ross questions is If you were not pursuing the career goals you described in Question 1, what profession would you pursue instead? (for example, teacher, musician, athlete, architect, etc.) How will this alternate interest contribute to your effectiveness in solving multi-disciplinary problems? I would probably answer that I would have been a Lawn Tennis player. But how shall I answer the second part. "contribution to your effectiveness in solving multi-disciplinary problems" "

    Dilemma

How good is Gatech a brand in US? I know it is excellent for engineering but no clue about other things. The positives it has for me are : Low fee, 16 months Vs 22 of MBA, good placements. I spoke with current students too. They informed me that there are just 20 students in a batch and all get placed comfortably. Lots of alumni at Wall Street also. Given the heavy losses reported by all banks, how is the scenario in US. Has recruitment been affected ?

    Dilemma

Hi GMATbong My profile: GMAT: 720, Indian IT male, 2.5 yrs work in Aricent, world best co for Telecom Software. Engineer from Univ of Delhi. 71.33% I had applied to top 10 MBA progs last year and was rejected at all. Now, I have an admit from Georgia Tech for MS in quant and comp finance starting Jan 2008. Should I join the course or apply for MBA/MFE Fall 08 admissions? Also, if I join in Jan, I'll have to apply immediately for internships in summer. I think, most of the banks have deadlines in Late Oct and Nov. Do I have a realistic chance of getting an internship in a leading bank now.
  7. He doesnt need courses but a good market study to identify future growth areas. Be it course, certificate program or job....... He did work in a start up in India. The company identifies future growth areas and invest in projects. He did work in some good projects but is very unhappy. His focus is on Manufacturing Steel only (diff types High speed steel, stainless, pipes, etc) and working in such a company will not help him identify the future growth areas. See, I am talking ground reality. He needs to purchase expensive machinery to setup a plant and employ workers. Its an expensive thing to do and one that might be make break for him. He needs a specialized understanding in future of Asian Manufacturing industry. Probably any short course in any college/company. Everyone's advice is welcome. He is really unhappy manufacturing the same thing for like decades now.
  8. Hi My brother has done his MBA from India. He is an entrepreneur and is into Steel Manufacturing. He wants to explore the Asian market and find new Business opportunities in Steel (Manufacturing/Import/Export/trading). Gmatbong and others, can you please suggest some short duration courses (3months-6months) in China or elsewhere. He wants to get a feel of the market, what future areas should he focus on and make contacts. Basically marketing research rather than just theoretical understanding of Business. Thanks Tam
  9. Hi I had taken TOEFL CBT last year but do not remember where all I had sent my score reports to. Is there any way I can track where all I had sent my scores?
  10. Hi Chans I may be applying to MBS for Fall 08 and have spoken with current students and Alumni of MBS. 1) If you wanna stay in Asia-Pacific or Australia, it is as good as any top US B School. (barring M7 for Asia-pacific minus Australia) 2) Finances are half of what u wud pay in a US B Schools. 3) MBB recruit MBS students but again, toppers only. The batch size is extremely small, 45. Most students don't opt for Student exchange although MBS has good exchange schools. Life in Melbourne is relaxed and good city to live in. If you are ambitious sort of guy who wants to be in a very competitive world, then MBS is not the place for you. However, it is the best in Asia Pacific and alumni are doing well in the region. I am no expert but this is what I have with me. GMATbong, can you pls validate :) Tam
  11. GMATbong, pls shower your advice :)
  12. Thanks GMATbong.... 1) Which schools in 10-20 category would you add 2) Had a doubt regarding resume. I do not have exact figures regarding my projects as in how many million dollars they were. But I do have estimated figures (the company does not release these figures) Should I write "worked in an $XMM project" when I know X based on hearsay and estimations ? 3) Do schools accept a 3rd Recommendation? I can provide a reco from Senior Business Developer of my company. I just want to deliver the message to schools that I have been very active in this area although my work ex was in software development. Will this 3rd reco help ?
  13. After so many years in Hardware, How would you justify Investment Banking as a career to B schools ?
  14. Hello GMATbong I have 3 years Indian IT experience with 720 on GMAT. Pretty common profile with no wow factor as such. Have good extra curricular at college and work. Engineer from Delhi Univ with 3.4 After MBA, I want to focus on Telecom/High-Tech marketing/Biz Development and later sales. Which schools should I consider? Currently I am thinking of Michigan (Ross), UCLA, Kenan-Flagler, Darden, Cornell Berkeley and MIT would be unrealistic, so not apping there. Which schools would you say I should explore ..... Is there any that you would add/remove from this list
