  1. thanks people !! the D-Day is here !! :rolleyes: be ready for [clap] hihihih... hopefully !
  2. oh .. really tough ones now !! my answers would be (1) --> E (2) --> B (3) --> B i'll give details if they are correct.. !
  3. Die is used to give shape to some object => X is used doing B to some object option © drill is used for BORING (making a hole) in some object but now (a) and (e) also fit the above relation narrow it down.. think more...!! :hmm: got it ??? :idea: Die is used to give shape to some object which changes its physical property => X is used doing B to some object which changes its physical property only © fits now.. :) hope you got it !
  4. Tips for SC - 1> Try to guess the answer before looking at the answer choices, and when you look at the answer choices, find the one nearest to your guess.. it works almost all of the time. 2> notice the ques in the sentence, like "and" "or" "like" "but" "however" etc. 3> Practice practice practice.. especially from official material like big book, powerprep (esp the excercises in software, they give GREAT solutions).
  5. Thanks both !! @tom25 - Best of luck to you too ... do well !
  6. 1> for the second blank only "dormant" seems logical and hence we get the answer! 2> here for the second blank we need something which contrasts with unsuccessful (clue "often more numerous unsuccessful genotypes"). Only (b) and (e) fit this requirement, "savvy" is illogical in first blank, so answer is (B). 3> clue is "alternation" .. i think answer is ©. What are the OA ?:whistle:

    Big Book Format

    It was designed so that it can be finished in 30 minutes.. ! Don't worry you'll surely finish it on time once you get a hang of it :tup:
  8. As people grow older, an enzyme known as PEP increasingly breaks down the neuropeptide chemicals involved in learning and memory. But now, researchers have found compounds that prevent PEP from breaking neuropeptides apart. In tests, these compounds almost completely restored lost memory in rats. The use of these compounds should be extended to students who have poor memory and difficulty in concentrating — and therefore serious problems in school performance. Science finally has a solution for problems neither parents nor teachers could solve. Analysis of argument --- Given argument claims that a breakthrough has been achieved in the field of human learning and memory, and now students with poor memory and learning capabilities can be treated. This claim is made on the basis of research which restored lost memory in rats, by using some compounds which inhibit PEP from breaking neuropeptides apart. At first glance, this argument seems to be a valid one, but closer inspection reveals that it builds upon some very specious assumptions. First of all, it is tacitly assumed that the compounds which worked on lab rats, under experimental conditions would also work on humans in normal conditions. No information regarding clinical tests on real humans has been given. If these compounds are found to be toxic for humans then the entire research would be wasted. Another fallacy of the argument lies in the hidden assumption that PEP and neuropeptides are the only components which affect memory and learning capabilities in humans. There might be other chemicals involved in the learning and memory processes, which are not known yet. If the lack of learning and memory capabilities is due to lack or imbalance of these chemicals or enzymes then the research given in argument above would not be able to help such people at all. It is wrong on part of the author to say that students lack some learning capabilities purely due to some brain malfunction. It is possible that the student is not interested in studying and so she doesn’t memorize the details etc. In such cases also the breakthrough stated in given argument would be useless. It is also possible that slow learning in students is due to lack of neuropeptide chemicals, but this is not being caused due to PEP enzymes at all. In conclusion, one can say that the argument is flawed and it deserves no merit. It is based purely on some hidden assumptions which probably would be false and thus is using specious reasoning. The argument would be more convincing if the author provides information of clinical human subject trials, research disproving involvement of any other chemicals in learning and memory processes and statistics correlation slow learning and bad memory in students to lack of neuropeptide chemicals DUE to PEP enzymes.
  9. "I do agree that television has its inherent benefits, I disagree" use some connector here... like " benefits, BUT I disagree "... In Para2 -- nice example :grad: Para 3 - could have used some better example, like reading books is subjective and author can create ANY image in the canvas of your mind.. etc. which is not possible in TV. Also, Para4 is more important than para3, but not fully developed.. it should be put before para4 and add more weight to it.. conclusion has -- "In conclusion, " and also "In final analysis"... not needed twice.. also the conclusion that you offer, to use both TV & book, has not been developed in entire essay, and your thesis statement also didn't point to such a conclusion.. so conclusion is very weak.. I'll give 3 / 6 to your essay, if conclusion was in line with the points made, would have given a 4.
  10. "Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future." There’s an old Greek proverb which says - ‘One foot isn’t enough to walk with.’ Given issue states that government should focus on current issues while turning a blind eye to the anticipated problems of future. This is like walking with a single leg, and such a government is bound to flounder and to ultimately fail in its endeavor to ensure a good present and secure an even better future for its people. Best option for governance is to work on current problems keeping in view the future that the people envision for themselves. While, solving current problems as fast and quickly as possible should be the primary aim of any Government, overlooking future problems is highly immature form of looking at things. In such a case many problems would keep on recurring, and the government would keep on using its “fire-fighting” techniques to solve them, without realizing what were the root causes that caused this “fire”. For example, every in an Agrarian economy, droughts might occur randomly, and each time government would work to provide financial and social help to its farmers and citizens. It might also import some foodgrain to prevent starvation. But, identifying the root cause would enable it to take preemptory actions to extirpate the basic reason for occurrence of such problems, or atleast to mitigate its effect on people. In this example, technologies for monsoon prediction, water storage can help mitigate the randomness and reduce the fire-fighting that govt has to do during each such occurrence. Also, anticipating future problems would enable the administration to streamline its current work with the future needs of its citizens. For example, if floods are occurring often in a region, then government can build a dam with irrigation & hydroelectric power generation facility. This not only solves the problem of flooding, but it would also provide electricity and irrigation needs of the entire region for years to come. Thus, a bad situation can be reverted and the solution actually can do lot more benefit rather than just solving a problem. Some might argue that focusing on future developments is wastage of resources that can be better used today. But such people don’t realize that working on future along with present would in fact help the people achieve more with less use of resources. Just solving the problem at hand is like taking a very insular view of a problem. For example, solving the problem of an epidemic in a region is fine, say the cost is 100$ to treat each patient. But, if along with this some vaccination program, which costs only 1$ per person to be vaccinated would prevent reoccurrence of such an epidemic, then it would be unwise to not plan and execute such a program. In sum, keeping an eye on future while working in present is the only way for a government to ensure that its people make progress and it is the true sign of wisdom.
  11. i started scoring using the table given in ETS paper based test.. don't know if it is accurate or not.. anyways.. doesn't matter much now.. my GRE is in 5 days !
  12. Am finding it hard to concentrate on studying these days.. will start quanta and AWA prep tommorrow.. pretty confident in quanta (hope m not over confident).. what all should i be concentrating on ? also plz give any exam day, CBT tips/tricks.. :) thanks !! PS: Eagerly waiting to make a post in 'just finished' section.... :rolleyes:
  13. Thanks mate ! i have already wasted PP1, so saving the other one for the end... umm.. only 10 days remaining though.. :D
  14. great ! if i knew of all the thorough thought process that went into writing this essay.. i'd give it a 6.. but as it stands.. i'll give it a 5 too..
  15. I am getting around 29-30 (out of 38) in big book verbal tests (consistently! :-( ) .. so that is around 60-61 / 76 per test.. and if we consider same ratio of corrects , around 24 / 30 in a 30 question test.. how can I determine what score I can expect in the real GRE ? (out of 800)
