  1. Yes, I did receive it by mail and that was me who posted on thegradcafe- I probably received it early because I go to U of Rochester, which is only about 90 miles from Cornell. The letter was postmarked March 29.
  2. For those of you still wondering about Cornell, I just got an acceptance letter in the mail, but I was not offered aid.
  3. I was officially waitlisted at MIT by email.
  4. I think the question is how sure you are that this is the sub-field you want to pursue in graduate school. If you are absolutely certain that macro growth is the sub-field you will pursue, then you may be able to justify attending brown over penn. However, if your interests change over the course of your graduate education, you will be sorry. My thinking is that unless you are absolutely certain about your sub-field, you should attend the school with the best overall program. Even if you do end up choosing penn and doing macro growth, as far as placement is concerned, Penn will still get you a long way and will probably do more for you in the long run.
  5. I will be at the Yale visit, and I'm almost certain that I will be attending Yale next year.
  6. I go to school in upstate NY, where I received the letter.
  7. I just checked the application and the webpage for tracking received documents- there's nothing that says I was admitted. The decisions only come by mail I guess. Good luck!
  8. It was in both. In the econ dept envelope, the letter from Xavier Sala-i-Martin mentioned the fellowship information, and the fedex from the graduate school was solely to provide more information about the fellowship.
  9. There were actually two separate envelopes - One was sent by regular mail (postmarked March 7) from the economics department and one was sent by FedEx (postmarked March 8) from the graduate school. Both arrived today. Q800, V570, A5.0 Triple Major: Economics, Mathematics, Applied Music Finishing undergrad a school with top 20 econ program and top 1-3 music program GPA: 3.91 Overall, 3.95 Math, 3.9 Econ Many math and econ courses: Graduate courses (as an undergrad) in Econometrics, Measure Theory, Functional Analysis, Probability, Stochastic Processes. Excellent LOR
  10. I was accepted to the Economics PhD program at Columbia with tuition + 20K per year. The acceptance came by mail.
  11. The director of admissions from NYU called me and asked me whether I'm still interested in attending. Basically, he told me that I was accepted, but they don't want to make an offer to me if I'm no longer interested so that someone else who is interested could have a chance. I can't see myself going to NYU over Yale, so I'm going to turn them down now so that someone else who is interested could have a chance to go there.
  12. I called the Harvard econ department two days ago to find out whether I was still being considered for a spot or whether all the spots were filled, and they seemed surprised to hear that I heard that some acceptance emails had gone out. The didn't expect that to happen until about March 15th-17th. So maybe the people who heard got unofficial emails and they're still deciding for the rest of us who haven't heard yet?
  13. I was just accepted to Rochester Econ by email with tuition + 16K.
  14. I also emailed the graduate secretary, and was also told that I am not on the list.
