  1. Thank you Sri :). Thanks a lot. Bye for now, Vidhya
  2. Hi Sri, Thanks a lot again. I managed to solve the problem with forex....i took a printout of the page where Cornell has endorsed AMS for students wishing to take the installment scheme....and convinced the bank manager about it....so thankfully that is solved for now...i also sent a wire transfer for the necessary amount before registering....so all shud be set and done....I contacted the Indian Students' Association at Cornell on ur advice and they did give me some hints abt the loan, but as u said rightly they need a US co-applicant...I am still keeping my fingers crossed on it....also they said that the M.Eng, course is very demanding, so I wud not have time for on-campus jobs. But the course is good and carries a certain value, not too sure about jobs though...neways I dunt have any other options, so will explore this.....I appreciate ur help Sri, and will ask u again if I need any help. Thanks a lot. Vidhya.
  3. Hi Sri, AMS is Academic Management Services, that helps students pay for their tuition fees in monthly instalments. Here is a website: http://www.univco.cornell.edu/bursar/billingdates.html u can click on the Cornell Installment Plan (CIP) there..... pls do let me know.... Thx a lot in advance, Vidhya
  4. Hi Sri, thanks immensely for ur help and for clearing the doubt on visa status. Actually, another doubt has cropped up in the meantime. See, we need to transfer foreign exchange to Cornell for tuition fees....due to Forex regulations of the Govt. of India SBI will only issue the exchange in Cornell's name. Now I have enrolled myself with AMS for opting the monthly instalment plan, as it will help my dad manage the finances. But AMS wants me to pay directly to them as tuition reimbursement, i.e. they will debit my tuition to Cornell's Bursary and I have to pay their credit back. What do I do now? Do u have any ideas? I'm sorry for bothering u again and again.....but neither I nor my parents have any ideas about it....we r kinda worried.....Also, can we get a student loan upon arriving at Cornell? I wrote to their loan counsellor and she said that I would need a US co-signer. How easy is it to get one and can I get one? Please reply....thanks in advance again! Vidhya
  5. Hi Sri, thank you so much for all your help. The EAD document can be got after I finish my graduation, i.e. on May 31, 2004? Will this allow me to work as an intern after I finish my course? And if I do get a job, then can I change my visa status to [H1] in the US itself or do I need to come back to India? Does my F1 visa still hold in that case? Like my F1 is valid till June 2008, and if I get a job say in 2004 then does my F1 still remain valid? Do please let me know. I thought of asking you about the prospects of a job too. Do you think that my 2.5 years of experience will count? I worked in telecom switching, but intend to specialize in microelectronics. Do companies like TI and Intel hire from Cornell? Do you know anyone who did her M.Eng. in ECE recently from Cornell or elsewhere? Sorry for so many questions... they just don't seem to end! Bye for now, Vidhya
  6. Hi, I shall be joining the School of ECE at Cornell this Fall for my M.Eng. I got a F1 till June 15 2008 but my I-20 is till May 31 2004. What does this actually mean? Does it mean that I am allowed to remain a student even if my course is over? I want to get a job ASAP after my course, but as an alternative I also want to apply to some Ph.D. program after my M.Eng. For the next Fall I would need to apply by this January to other schools, by which I would not have my M.Eng. results out. Can I apply then? Also, when do companies normally visit the campus for placements? My stats are GPA 3.6/4.0 from JU, India, with 2.5 years work experience in telecom switching with a MNC, GRE 1360/1600 (V 560, Q 800, AWA 5.5). Do I need to retake GRE for admission to a better school? Thanks in advance, Vidhya
  7. Hi All, I got my visa to go to Cornell. Thank you all, specially Erin for your invaluable suggestions and support to me. Is there anyone else going to Cornell this Fall? Do let me know. Regards, Vidhya
  8. Hi All, Thank you so much for your good wishes. I still am a little sceptical owing to two things, mainly because the course is self-funded and two because of the general industrial slowdown. The M.Eng. course is too focussed on industry, isn't it? Do please clear my dilemma. Thanks in advance. Bye, Vidhya
  9. Hello Friends, I have won admission to the M.Eng. (ECE) Program in ECE at Cornell, effective Fall 2003. There is no aid associated with this program. I would like to know whether it is right to join there, given that I do manage to get a F1, in these times when the job scenario is not too good. I am presently a student with the Universitat Des Saarlandes in Saarbruecken, Germany. Looking forward for your comments. Bye, Vidhya
