  1. Hi Folks, Finally i made it in the class of 1400's ! Yeah, a yr bak i screwed up on GRE with 1210 but now made it 1480 (800 q, 680 v) :) Okies now coming to the point, can you suggest me some nice univ for MIS at this profile : GRE : 1480 (most recent) TOEFL : Yet to give but will be decent enough Work Exp : will be 25 months in a reputed s/w MNC by the time i will join the course for Fall 09, as of now it is 14 months Acads : 71 % in BE in Information Technology. Awards : Grabbed 2 awards for my work. Plz note that i wont be aiming for CMU, Austin etc as though they are high tiers, i wont be having funding chances there given the fact that there fee is quite high....so plz suggest me sone univ which are good in placements and are relatively low in fee like TAMU. Let me know in case of any further information reqd from me to judge my profile. While i will solicit inputs from all TMians, advise from Senior members is highly requested...thnx !
  2. just wondering if the word is actually "pervious" or that was meant to be "previous"...can the original poster please confirm. :hmm:
  3. ya i know dat i m bak here after a long time.... anyway is the ans C?
  4. Thnx bohemian, mketone & heavyrain.. So here i got my AWA scores as 4.5....(more than wat i expected...:) )
  5. Thnx Rohitanna,targetgre and een......lets c wat i hit with this score....hoping for something good ;)
  6. Hello friend s..... Finally,i too have got this oppourtunity to tell u abt my GRE experience. First of all i will admit, that though my GRE score is not what i had expected for,but then i must say one thing as well......its all a matter of those 4 hours....if ur brain is active,u r cool and composed, and finally,u r in the right state of mind,GRE is yours.......Believe me friends.....just keep urself cool and dont predict ur scores at the time wen u r in front of the system (the mistake which i did :-( )....let the test go at its pace and u just concentrate on the question at hand...this is one of the major piece of advice i can give. Though i had prepared for it really hard, certainly my GRE scores dont reflect that hard work....except for maths in which thankfully i have got full outta full score....one thing to be happy about :D OK.....so while i was preparing for my GRE,i regularly used to visit this forum, everyday i used to come here so that i cud read out the experience of other test takers, and carry out their suggestions.I feel that since i v benefitted so much from this forum, its my duty to repay back as much as i can...so friend s here comes my GRE experience. While i m writing this post,i will try to be as much detailed as i can....may be i will include many superfluous details as well, even including the test center details, coz i feel that if we know tat experience beforehand,it reduces the anxiety of this test......so for those test takers who dont have much time left, plz directly go to the "test-experience" heading in this post itself, and start reading there... Prior to test,my experience : well prior to the test i had completed barrons....all the 3500 words, with retaining capacity of almost 3200 words. This thing might create some sort of panic to other test takers coz they might think that wen i had completed barrons than why i scored only 410 in verbal.WELL....the ans to this and my real advice to u people is that......DOING wordlists is not enough,u have to also learn how to apply the words u have learned in the right context to the abstruse and esoteric verbal section of the GRE.Here i will like to clarify that as far as words and vocabulary is concerned,BARRONS is more than enough, but wen it comes to practice,u have to be more diligent. From my experience,i can tell u that even after having rote the 3500 words of barrons,i face the problem in verbal because of the prevailing misconception. The misconception is that for the GRE u just have to rote the wordlists,BUT IT IS WRONG. Friends take it frm me,doing practice questions is equally important as doing wordlists. If u give equal weightage to both,u r sure to crack the GRE like anything.Since i totally concentrated on mere wordlists,& somewhat neglected the verbal practice part, may be i scored the way i did.so my advice will be to weigh equally the practice questions and the wordlists. Test experience : Well like always, i started with AWA part,it went off well.An issue followed by the argument.then came the 10 minutes break. Then to my utter surprise came the maths section. The computer that day decided to give me a pack of surprises ;) Ok...so maths.......well the maths section was a piece of cake, with some cherries of surprises! Nothing tough as such, but certainly the time crunch is observable.Make sure u maintain ur speed....coz i believe in maths, it is more of a race against time.Make sure u concentrate really well on the first 15-17 questions,in fact the initial questions are the deciders.I paid extreme attention to the initial questions, and my first guess was on question 20,so i was sure that my maths section will be solid. In fact i probably made a mistake somewhere at questions 23,26 and 28 but was sure of the rest so maths was all in all a good experience. In the end when the scores finally flashed, i saw that in maths i got 800/800 ! ........hey mamma....look,ur son is a math genius :p Then came the much required 1 minute break....the computer asked me whether i wanted that break.....i responded with a "yes u idiot....who will not want a break after such a marathon race in maths :D " Well during the break....i tried to remain calm, but i remember that like i did in TOEFL, i soliloquized to myself...."Yes,i am just 1 section away from turning my dreams to reality....c'mon boy...u can do it" , some times such kindaa motivational talks do really help u.... Then started the most dreaded verbal section.....i dont remember the questions as such.....but certainly they were all barrons words.I had 1 thing in mind-- "i will focus on the first 5 questions...the deciders".And prolly i did well on those....then the first RC came at around question 10.It was the 2 question RC....but that RC proved out devastating for me....coz it sucked a great amount of time to read and understand (8 mins around  ).Anyhow i completed the RC and watched the clock........man i went frenzied .Then after that i answered the questions in real hurry, and got questions 16-19 as another set of RC's.It totally sucked the rest of the time left outta my slot of 30 minutes......i knew right then that i have committed a blunder.....after that the scene was something like that.... time left = 1 min questions left = 10 This totally got me out of my nerve.....and finally i lost my composure....and answered the questions with blazing speed.Friends, mind it that GRE gives u a strict penalty for unattempted questions,so make sure that u anyhow complete the questioons, evenif they r pure "guess".I never minded at randomly guessing the questions, coz even if i was wrong,my score will not get that down as compared to the penalty i would get in case of unattempted questions. So finally the verbal part and the test got over....then came the identified research section...i attempted it and then the computer asked me whether i wanted to see my scores or cancel them...... i answered to show my scores.....and man....there were the scores in front of me.... verbal 410 quants 800 COMPLETE SILENCE IT WAS.....i was mute and dumb.....i was totally puzzled and confused, unable to justify my visual sensation....was i that bad at verbal part....? Maths i knew i had done well but verbal was for me really unjustifiable. Was i the same person who scored over 600+in verbal on dummy GRE's and powerprep.... For complete 2-3 mins i was sitting dumb at the system.....in fact i remember that for atleast 1-2 mins i was all vacuum....i was staring rather gawking at the screen.......i had no thoughts in my mind at that time...this was ironically the best void state of mind i had experienced till date..... For that moment of time i was unable to feel even the cold blast of AC disturbing me,which otherwise i was feeling during the whole test. Shattered i was.....completed the formalities of the test......went out of the testing room with bulky steps.....opened up my locker, took my belongings....and left the testing area with a feel of forlornness...my testing slot was of evening 5-9 PM but i was all free at 8:30 PM.....during my return to the hotel back all alone, i found myself retrospecting....... That night,i thought abt the amount of money, energy and efforts i spent for this exam....thought abt the loophole in my preps that left me in a state i was.....finally came to the conclusion......that day was certainly not my day.....And this score is certainly not what i deserve.....i hv more potential than this......with a positive note and with my talk to my mom and dad back in my hometown, who pretended that it was "not a big deal"......i went asleep. The next day,i started afresh......coz i strongly believed that my potential was certainly greater.....i decided that now i will not allow this score to spoil my mood any more......so i went to "akshardhaam" temple.....got soothened in the vicinity of the divine power and packed my bags back to go to my home.......and decided to go ahead optimistically........life is all abt how one sees it....how true ! So ppl.....that was all abt my GRE experience......plz feel free to ask any questions u have, unless they r questions asking real GRE questions ;-) .... i will positively answer them...... Yes....regarding my powerprep scores....they were.. PP1= 730 (maths) 640 (verbal) [7 days before test] PP2= 800 (maths) 600 (verbal) [1 day before the test] Final GRE = 800 (maths) 410 (verbal) Still trying to find out where i messed up in verbal....:hmm: coz the last 10 questions dont cost a decrease of 190 numbers... Finally i will like to thanks ERIN for creating such a nice forum.....and to the following members who helped me in some way or the other....SEAGULL,ManWithTheMission,SNYP40A1,Carpenia, MAHM_magic,Rfazal,targetGRE,Rohitanna,MysteryMan and ofcourse many........ Lastly...my best wishes to the members who r going to give the test in near future....ANNIE,KNMAHESHY2k...all the best to u 2 ! P.S : Guys I wanna do MS from a well known university....may be in top 50's so do i still have chances.....or i will have to reappear for the test... plz advice

  9. Thnx rohitanna for the reply.... well though i dont know as such any1 who has got a gr8 admit wid low verbal, but as i said previously as well, it was wat i had heard from other people. However , I would strongly recommend u to discuss ur case (specifying dat u being the topper ) with any counselor if u hv 1 in ur city/contact or u can check the admissions thread in this forum......people there are the ones's who already have an admit...so mayy be they can really guide u accurately based on their previous year experiences. All the best.... :)
  10. Rohitanna, First congrats on perfect score in quants.... Though ur verbal is a tragic story,i will say dat before giving the GRE,make sure to counsel people whether its really necessary to give.....i m saying this particularly for 3 reasons.... 1.Ur profile is damn unique in the sense that u r not a topper....but a CONSISTENT TOPPER at ur college....which really boosts up ur chances inspite of bad verbal. 2.What is majorly reqd for a good admit in engg field is quants....which u have cracked !! 3.In case of bad verbal adcom sees whether the candidate is really poor in general english by tracking the TOEFL scores, which again u hv cracked ! (Plz verify this pt. by other members as well....heard it somewer) I hv even heard that top notch schools dont even give gr8 significance to GRE scores as they give to GPA.....which again u r excelling at !! So i hope u hv got wat i wanna say..... After having given advice, now its my turn to take some advice from u....:p 1.What were the lengths of the RC's & their positioning(Q. NO. OF ARRIVAL)? 2.If u dont mind, can u elaborate a bit on wat were the issue topics? 3.wAS MATHS CONSISTING OF NORMAL DISTRIBUTION,PROBABILITY ? And were DI questions too tuf ? Thnx....having my test on 3rd oct.....wish me all the best :)
  11. Hi frnds.... I have a doubt...i recently gave my powerprep1 (3 times) and found that the RC's were of length 30(2 question)-75(4 question)-30(2 question). The problem is that many a people here report that the in the real test, RC's come of length approx. of 60(2q)-100(4q)-60(2q). [approx double the length i got, which is horrible for me,given the fact that i with my relatively short RC's on PP was facing a time crunch :( ] So i mean what comes in powerprep is different from real test?Or does the RC length is the same in the 2? I request the members who have given the test to plz let us know wat were the approxx length of the RC's they got & their arrival period? Thnx and plz reply...i have my gre after a week!
