  1. dude..u gotta say wat ur specialization iz.. remember, that costwise both are the same...but both r different degreess.. gatech is a traditional ms..with thesis and coursework options + u can b part of research groups + possibility of TA/RA + more course options (u can minor is computer science / management)+ 1.5yrs to 2yrs.. cornell mengg...well 9months course intensive degree + can get u a good job + early+bt no research and less project involvement...so u go here, if ur sure u immediately want to get into the industry, possibly follow it up with an mba,,, n u go to gatech, 4 a broad based graduation, with more options... btw..i got thru gatech ms ece :)
  2. guys i m confused bout the fee structure at cmu ece... its a one and half year course with 96 units (8 courses...12 units each required) annual tuition fee..$30,000 last year...thus per sem $15000 suppose if i finish the course in 3 sems...cost becoomes $45000... now is that figure for 96 units...or as many units as u can take..can i take more than 96 units in 3 semesters for the same price??????? basically, Is the cost calculated semesterwise or unitwise???...cost per unit wuz $417 last year... checked on the cmu pdf for costs...they were not at all specific... yash
  3. helloo evryne.... i got admitted to CMU INI........wow... :D ... i know its a different course....but i applied to it in the first place bcos its a kickass course, and a very flexible one,.....apart from my core courses which would includde embedded systems, telecom networking, management credits, and database management, .... i am free too take five courses from ne department...... on talkin with the graduate program coordinator at ECE CMU ... i wuz told that theere wld be restriction on taking credits from the robotics institue of CMU..i wld have to take 5 core courses from ECE and only remaining 3 course electives could be taken from the robotics institute...n that too only a few restricted n approved ones...Thus being in MS ECE at CMU would restrict my chances of pursuing hardcore robotics thus CMU INI is giving me a greater access to the Robotics Institute... i have not yet been intimated bout aid...but a friend of mine secured a $30,000 aid...20 days after the admit letter....n the job scene after INI is GR8 n for univ of washington ...the robotics program is electrical engineering centric...so all my credits can be in robotics..plus possibility of RA ...plus cheap...n i m talkin with one of their labs bout pursuin research there... so me in big time confusion..... guys..some of ur opinions plz.......wld help me a lot yash
  4. thnx to all of u guys for replying....ya, me now kind off certain to select CMU over UWAsh...as all of u said..they dont even compare...its completely true...the only constraint was the money involved, and the possibility of aid i would get once at UWAsh...but now i am willing to take a big loan n get into cmu...get amongst the best involved..which will definitely help me in the long run ......once again thnx to all of ull for helping me out...:)
  5. sure dude...thinkin on the same line...i believe that gttin into CMU will pay in the long run..well herezz the profile Currently Studying:Electronics &Telecommunication Engineering,Mumbai university,India Course applied to: MS in Electrical Engineering specialization Robotics Academic: 69% Topper in Class: 75% (my university does not follow the GPA system) GRE: 800 Q(92 %), 660 V(93%), 4.5 AWA TOEFL: 293 Papers: unpublished ones...1)embedded networking and home security 2)walking machines 3)neural network based obstacle avoidance Projects: Lots of projects in area of interest 1)Embedded webserver, internet enabled home security 2) 3 degree of freedom robotic arm..activity communicator 3)Neural network based obstacle avoiding robot 4)line tracking robot 5)PC I/O expansion board...many electronic gadgets,, Summer India's internship at premier research organization - Bhabha Atomic Research Centre... ADMITS: CMU, Univ of Washington, Rensselar Polytechnic, Univ of Southern California, Syracuse
  6. people...y dont ull reply on this forum....i m damm confused at this point...n ur replies wld really help me in moving ahead... thnx evryone,,, yash
  7. hello everyonee... i wish to pursue MS in Electrical Engg.with specialization in robotics, AI....have been admitted to UWashington and Carnegie mellon univ...not being able to decide between the two...hence wanted to know few things 1)wats the job scene in washington..seattle area..especially in something like robotics, automation..and embedded systems... 2)for jobs in robotics .. can MS be a terminal degree or is a PHd essential?? 3)does it make economic sense to spend thrice the amount and take up MS at CMU over UWash...no doubt CMU is the best in robotics....n for me money is a constraint.....further possibility of aid at CMU is almost nil whereas at UWash its possible... thnx a lot to all of ull.....waiting for ur replies...it wld help me a lot... yash
  8. hi im Yash, currently in the final year - electronics and telecom eng..mumbai univ...india Aggre--68% topper--75% GRE-1460(800-q, 660-v,4.5-awa) toefl-- 293,5-essay Applied to MS in Electrical Eng specialization in Robotics,Intelligent systems Univ applied to: 1)Georgia Tech 2)Carnegie Mellon univ (ADMIT) 3)Univ of Washington (ADMIT) 4)Rennselaer poltechnic (ADMIT) 5)Univ of Southern California(applied in Computer science-intelligent robotics)(ADMIT) 6)Univ of pennsylvania 7)Syracuse (ADMIT) i m extremely confused bout choosing b/w CMU and Univ of washington... CMU is frigging expensive ($31000 tuiitions) and there is no chance of aid watsoever....though its the best in robotics...... Washington is an extremely good admit...program is cheap...($17,000 tuitions)..i have also got a mail from one of their labs asking me to join....and aid is kind of guaranteed once i m there.... though USC has a good program in robotics......its not that gr8 for ms...no aid for sure...and u r not unique at usc....30 people from my college itself have been admittted to their EE program..thats sucks.. n rennselaer polytechnic is out of question.....n syracuse i wont choose over the other admits.. could ull sugest wat should i go for...though hopefully if ill get georgia tech..itll be a straight forward choice lookin forward to ur replies...thnx a lot to all of ulll........ yash
