  1. I am also wondering what happened to MChrain? Hope he has succeeded to get in some school...
  2. I would like to compare my scores over the past 5 weeks with others because I don't know whether the CATs are representative of real scores. I can confirm that the Q part is really hard, and I was never able to finish it, with every time half answers wrong! : V Q Score mgmat Test1 35 40 620 mgmat Test2 35 26 520 mgmat cat1 41 43 700 mgmat test3 42 46 720 mgmat cat2 40 49 730 mgmat cat3 51 43 740 mgmat cat4 51 45 750
  3. When you all are reporting your Kaplan scores, you are talking about the Kaplan Cats 2003 or 2006? I did both, and kaplan 2006/2007 cats are scored higher, each +50 points. Knowing that kaplan tests are hard, I think it is important to know which are reported since obviously we cannot compare scores 600 cats 2006.
  4. Everyone can give explanations why BCDE are wrong. But is there anyone who can definitevely say that A is right?? A seems to be obviously the right answer because it sounds better than the rest, and seems grammatically correct. But I would like to be sure. The point is that we don't have a negation: We dont have: He is not known, nor is known... We have : He IS UNKNOWN, NOR is known. So it is not a negative sentence as it is required normally by the use of NOR!!!!! He is impatient, nor is he docile. I believe, unless someone affirms the opposite, that it is wrong. Better would it be(I think): He is not patient, nor is he docile OR He is impatient and indocile OR He is neither patient nor docile. I don't know if A is correct, despite the OA. There is the rule saying that we have to take the best of the options. If, as I would believe, A is wrong, we cannot choose any of the answers. May be this is an incorrect SC which would never be proposed at an exam. My worry is that I don't want to learn a new rule which appears to be wrong and then make a mistake during the exam.
  5. OK, 'nor' is used with negative sentence, with or without neither: 'I don't eat X nor Y' He is not tall nor big He doesn't like neither X nor Y' BUT here the first part of the sentence is not negative: 'He is unknown' is positive. Negative would it be if 'He is NOT known. Is the sentence really positive as I think it is or am I mistaken? If I am right, it follows that NOR cannot be used. Thanks
  6. Hello Erin, I've read all your impressive explanations about this SC which is still puzzling me after 6 months study and already one attempt few months ago. I've read this sentence so many times. The problem is that every time I try to answer, I choose C! I simply cannot figure out why C is wrong. The quote above is the ultimate explanation I found for dismissing C. So you say that C can simply be dismissed because 'which were differing' uses a wrong verb tense. When I look this sentence, I don't see what is wrong in the tense. For example : 'the people were thinking'. I suppose this is a correct sentence which uses an intransitive verb, like 'differ'. So can you please explain a little more this point which seems to be so obvious but to me! Thanks
  7. Hi, I 've done Longman Reading test, and to the question : The phrase contribute to in §7 is closest in meaning to a. take part in b. danate to c. play a part in d. detract from The excerpt is :" At higher latitudes, the freezing and melting also contribute to thermal inertia" I chose a. The correct answer is c. But I don't know why. Has someone an explanation? Thanks.
  8. Thanks kingtut for your answer. As I said, I've downloaded the files from 2 sources(torrent and emule) to avoid any corrupted data. Both are iso and have the same reaction: whether I get an error message: insert CD, or I hear a beep. These happen when I launch the prog and click on install. I tried to lauch directly from the setup.exe, but same behavior. May be I should add that since today, I don't get any error message anymore, but only this error beep after clicking on install and after waiting few second for the CD to be checked. I tried following: 1) Burned the iso and 5 diferrent CD/RW CD with different options(protected CD/not protected) with Nero, magic iso and with Alcohol 120%. 2. Emulation with alcohol, virtual cd and daemon tool. :hmm:
  9. Hello, I ve downloaded the file using torrent and emule. Both dont work. Always the same message "please insert cd". I've done everything : burning with nero on RW and normal Cd, emulation with daemon tool and alkohol 120%. Concerning Daemon tools, I ve downloaded the V4 which doesnt 't work, had to install the 3.7. I spent so much time on this issue, I want now to throw this Kaplan toelf away... But before I do that, has someone a little idea what 's wrong? Thanks.
  10. Hello everyone, I'm planning a bit late to take the TOEFL beginning of June. It is just today that I learn that the old test is being replaced. I wanted to register in Germany, everything is booked for the next months, France as well. Now I want to go abroad, somewhere like Italy, Turkey. Few countries still offer the CBT. If I decide to do a CBT which seems to be easier, I will have to prepare with regular material. Otherwise, I'll have to buy ibt specific preparation materials. My question: how can I know now, if I register for a CBT, that in one month, it will be a CBT and not an IBT? On ETS' main page, the list of countries/cities which will turn to IBT is only once a week updated. Since I want to register now and start to prepare, I have to be sure I get prepared on the correct material! Thanks.
