  1. Failure does not begin to describe it - I took the first GMATPrep before ever looking at the material and scored a 690 (with 46 verbal and low quant) and after several months of intensive study... 690 again... I think I'm going to vomit... Took GMATPrep-2 three days before the exam, got 750 (49Q, 45V) and was feeling good... hell I even felt ok during the exam, though I didn't see any prob/comb questions so I knew something was wrong... I have no idea how I did so poorly on the verbal and I'm pretty sure that I messed up a lot of the DS in quant (it has always been a weak area for me)... actually... come to think of it... I must have messed up a lot more than just the DS to get a score I can count on one hand... But anyways... Took the test in Endicott, NY at Pearson Prof. Centers. The proctors were very friendly... so friendly that at the end when she saw all the blood leave my face after seeing my score she so kindly remarked: "well... the sun will still rise tomorrow"... that went over well... really... it did... :rolleyes: I have heard a bunch of complaining about the notebook/markers (I started stressing about it after reading these boards before the exam), but I didn't have any trouble... The pens are a bit hard to erase but there was more than enough space to prevent having to erase - and the proctor was very attentive and quick to respond to a raised hand... so I wouldn't worry about it, just as easy/good as a pen and paper. AWA gave me argument first - breezed through both of them with my templates... if there is any advice that is universal and sound you NEED to have a template going into these things, it makes it just so much easier (I know it's been said a hundred times, but I figure... once more couldn't hurt :p ) Managed to finish quant with a few seconds left on the clock... although in retrospect I must have been getting questions from the lower-difficulty bins given my score... its too bad because comb/prob is a strength for me (and perhaps the most applicable math tested for a b-school education?) Verbal started with an SC that really had me thinking... and given my score I probably guessed wrong (YAY!)... things progressed nicely from there... I had a few that I was 50/50 on, I must have had a 0% guessing rate today... It was very refreshing that the screens looked exactly like they do in GMAT-Prep, made for a familiar atmosphere. The seat was comfortable, the room was quiet enough (particularly with ear plugs) and was a perfect temperature for me (with a long-sleeve t-shirt). So now I've been told that I have to wait 31 days to retake the test, at which point I will be backpacking europe, so when I return mid-july I will restart the studying (gonna try the Manhattan books this time around since I tried every other book already Kaplan, Kap800, Princeton, Veritas and Arco) and hopefully I won't bomb again (I would very much so like to attend one of the Big3) It will be nice because I don't start work until Aug 14 so I will have a few weeks to study and take the test before... Ok... thanks for listening to this rambling... it's been theraputic... and you guys all rock and will do far better than I!!!! Much love ~meb
  2. Richita - I understand how you derived the different variations of the signs of x,y,z, but how did you determine the equation? I seem to be having some trouble with abs values... is there an approach to these kinds of problems?

    Noteboards

    Hi all! I am taking my test in two days (!!!!!!!!!!!) and was wondering about the noteboards that they give you. I was under the impression that it was an eraseable noteboard (like a whiteboard with a magic marker) but after reading on mba.com it is saying i get a "booklet with 5 noteboards" which if i "fill up" i may request more by raising my hand... i tend to write furiously and all over the place when i'm doing my quant and have figured this would not be a problem with a whiteboard, but now I am concerned... i do not have the time to be wasting on waiting for my proctor to get up and get me a new noteboard every 5 questions... has anybody taken the test since the implementation of these noteboards? do you have any input/advice on this? are they really eraseable? thanks so much! meb
  4. wow... great! thank you manish, you're a natural teacher!
  5. i'm sorry manish... but i still don't see it... i see how 5*6 is 30, but isn't 30 the last number in 30! ? How do we arrive at the conclusion that 5^7 is the highest power of 5 for which 30! will be divisible? thank you for your patience...
  6. BINGO! Thank you cloud! You easily just earned me 10 points :)
  7. how did you arrive at: "Highest power of 10 dividing 30! is 30/5 = 6 30/25 =1 10^7 will divide 30!" ?? thanks!
  8. If d is a positive integer and f is the product of the first thirty positive integers, what is the value of d? I) 10^d is a factor of f II) d > 6
  9. my problem is determining that 6/11 = .54545454.... how did you get that?
  10. checked and triple checked.... xy=1 what is the value of {(2(x+y)^2) / (2(x-y)^2)}
  11. How do you guys handle converting fractions like 6/11 to decimals? (ie. for questions asking for the 25th decimal place to the right of such a fraction in decimal form) is there an easy way to do it that i'm missing? thanks!
  12. I agree with GMAT-HELP and his way is DEFINITELY the quickest/easiest, but sometimes ya just don't recognize easy methods like that. so... if you want the algebra it would be: Let Q = Q's Rev/SEC (10/min * 1min/60sec = 10rev/60sec = 1rev/6sec) Let P = P's Rev/SEC (40/min * 1min/60sec = 40rev/60sec = 2rev/3sec) Let X = Amount of time (what we are solving for) Equation becomes: QX - PX = 6 2x/3 - x/6 = 6 --> 4x/6 - x/6 --> 3x/6 = 6 3x = 36 x=12 (ANS) Hope this helps meb
  13. if xy=1 then 2(x+y)^2 / 2(x-y)^2 =? a) 2 b) 4 c) 8 d) 16 e) 32 A chemical reaction is directly proportional to the square of concentration of chemical A present and inversely proportional to the concentration of chemical B present. If the concentration of B is increased by 100% which of the following is closest to the change in Chem A required to keep the reaction rate unchanged? a) 100% dec b) 50% dec c) 40% dec d) 40% inc e) 50% inc If each term in the sum a1 + a2... an is either a 7 or 77 and the sum equals 350 which of the following could be equal to n? 38 39 40 41 42 Without you all, I would be lost - thank you so much!

  15. I'm sorry Rachita, I'm still a little confused... when we are trying to determine the total number of outcomes that satisfy the given constraints, would 1,2,3 and 3,2,1 not count as two seperate occurances? i am positive that you are right, i just can't quite seem to understand why... thanks
