  1. hi degenerate! thanks for giving me ur valuable suggestions.i wud certainly keep those points in mind.thank u once again. japes
  2. hi degenerate!here i put in some effort to point out ur mistakes. i strongly agree to the authors contention that the general attitude of students should be(to) question and scrutinize whatever being taught without accepting the teachings passively .if students were to accept things passively there(their) independent reasoning capabilities would be stupefied.the student would develop a general assumption whatever being out forth(whatever is being put forth) to him are perfect and flawless it is only by formal reasoning , analysis .verification and validation that knowledge is gained.these knowledge which were previously worked upon(knowledge is an uncountable noun, it can be used only in singular form and only with singular verbs.so u should say 'the knowledge which was previously...'and i don't think knowledge will be worked upon.so u better delete that phrase) and gained by our ancestors were put forth to us to digest their teachings and harness it in a way that would(be) helpfull(helpful) for us and work upon these principles and theories to further gain knowledge . consider the example of Einstein .Einstein in his work of general theory of relativity challenged the Newtons(Newton's) assumption that space and time were absolute and independent .Newtons(Newton) at his times wassuccessful in the fields of mechanics and optics but his successes in celestial mechanics and optical physics only overshadowed his fallacy made in his theory of gravitation .even his contemporaries wern't skeptical about his assumptions made('about his assumptions' or 'about the assumptions he made') and only accepted his theory passively. but einstein disproved newton(Newton's) assumption and stated the space and time were indeed one and the same in his theory of relativity. even einstein's theory was put to litmus test at different times and was proved right at(in) various instances. if einstein like his other contemporaries were to accept Newton's theory just because he was Newton we still would have been unaware of the basis functioning of celestial objects blackholes etc.there were many such instances where theories don't hold good in certain instances.(u used 2 verbs 'were' and 'don't',one in present tense and one in past tense in the same sentence.u can say'there are many such instances where theories don't hold good..' or 'there were many instances where theories didn't hold good...")for example the law of conservation of masses doesn't hold good in nuclear reactions the essence behind the above example is that our ancestors who put forth theories were also humans and also make mistakes.the geeral attitude of the student should be to analyse such theories and make out how far these theories hold good. the above examples was(were) for the case of science consider the field of management were (where)practicalism is the keyword. any hypothesis or theory proposed in this field is only by analysing the trends of the contemporary business.theories which were relevant during certain period of time would be proved to be irrevelent(irrelevant) in our contemporary world .it lies in the hands of the students to verify the theory and enhance it to suit the contemporary world. to sum it up i would say that only by(there is no need of 'by' here) scrutinising and verifying encourages better learning than passive or partial acceptance.(otherwise u can say this way.'only by scrutinising and verifying, better learning will be possible than by passive acceptance') hi! first of all,let me thank u for reviewing my essay.i too was desperately waiting for someone to review my essay.thanks a lot. i guess many of the spelling mistakes which u did were done in a hurry.but u better check ur spellings after u r done with the essay.i pointed out some of the grammatical mistakes i cud find.and u didn't use any punctuation marks too,i mean commas, etc.i tried to point out ur mistakes to the best of my knowledge.let me know if u felt i was wrong anywhere. btw u didn't tell me when u r taking the exam.if possible, pls, review my other essay too, topic no 062.thank u. japes
  3. Hi degenerate! I am new to this forum too and i can't rate ur essay but i can certainly point out some of ur mistakes.Your essay has a nice flow but there are some grammatical mistakes which u need to improve. You didn't use any capital letters at the beginning of sentences as if it is an informal mail.I feel only if u practice it the right way from the beginning,u'll be able to do it right in the exam and also practice will definitely save ur time.don't u think so? I also felt u didn't organise ur paragraphs well, especially the last one.It would have been better if u discussed about the management issue in that para n gave ur conclusion in a seperate last para.I am new too,I may be wrong too but just wanted to u share my views. By the way, will u pls review my essays of topic no 012 n 062 and let me know ur views?and when r taking ur gre exam?thank u. japes
  4. hi all!this is my 2nd essay.my first essay is still not reviewed.would anybody pls take the pains to review this one n give me ur suggestions or comments. 062 The widespread idea that people should make self improvement a primary goal in people's lives is problematic because it assumes that people are intrinsically deficient. I don't think the idea that people should make self-improvement a primary goal in their lives is any problematic. The reason mentioned by the author that it assumes that people are intrinsically deficient is not reasonable enough for a person to stop improving oneself. Firstly, this universe is infinite in its extent and how much ever a person is knowledgeable, there is always much more to know about the universe.Being complacent with one's knowledge will only deter the personal development of an individual. It is plain simple to understand this if we just take a glimpse at the history of mankind. If only man was complacent with what he has and what he knows, there would not have been such a great advancement in science and technology. Secondly,as the author said,it may be correct that it assumes that people are deficient if people make self-improvemnt a primary goal. But there's nothing wrong if it assumes so.Moreover, only when a person realises that he is deficient, will he be motivated to improve himself and try to quench his thirst for knowledge.for example,if a doctor thinks he is perfect and never tries to update his knowledge regarding the latest advances in medicine,he proves himself incompetent in giving the best treatment to his patients. By making self-improvement their primary goal, people should not only try to improve their knowledge but also try to develop themselves into complete human beings. They should put in an endless effort to overcome their vices like greed,jealousy,narrow-mindedness,etc and develop into better human beings. So,I would like to restate the given statement this way-"People should realise that how much ever knowledge they may have, they are still deficient and have much more to learn and thus should make self-improvement as their primary goal in their lives.

  6. hi i am new to this forum.pls review my essay n give me ur valuable suggestions.thank u. 012 People's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surroundings than by any internal characteristic. I agree with the above statement that people's attitudes are determined more by their immediate surroundings than by any innate qualities.I am of the opinion that though inherent characteristics also influence a person's behaviour, the social environment around oneself has a major role in moulding it. A person's character starts developing right from the time when one starts recognising people around oneself as an infant.Parents are the first to influence a person's attitude because learning is a process which basically depends on sensory perception and repetition and parents are the first among those who come in contact with a growing child. That is how a child learns to talk by imitating the words spoken by people around him.And one more way a child adopts a behaviour is by trial and error. For example, if a child observes that he can attain what he wants by crying,he repeatedly uses the same trick to blackmail his parents and thus develops the attitude of being stubborn. On the contrary ,if a child percieves that his parents ignore his crying,he stops using his cry as a means of achieving something. And also children consciously and subconsciously acquire the morals and principles followed by their parents. The school environment and peers have the second most influence on the moulding of a child's character.Just the same way a child imitates his parents,he tries to imitate his friends too.For example,a child who has friends addicted to smoking is more prone to get addicted to smoking than a child who has friends who doesn't smoke. And above all,the socio-economic conditions of a person also play a significant role in the development of one's character. The socio-economic statu will not only have a direct influence on a person's behaviour but also by affecting the people around him will have an indirect influence. For example, researches have proved that socio-economic status has an influence on the number of divorces in the society. And it is irrefutable to say that children from broken families are more prone to become delinquent. However innate characteristics also determine a person's attitudes. There are some aspects like I.Q which are inherent to a child which certainly influence one's attitudes. And also it has been scientifically proved that presence of an extra Y chromosome results in the development of criminal attitudes in an individual. But considering the general population, people having extremes of I.Q or chromosomal abnormalities which can affect their character are very less. So,i conclude that though inherent qualities do affect a person's attitude, the immediate surroundings have a greater influence on the development of an individual's personality.
