Hi everyone! I want to discuss one question with you. The problem is, I am going to apply for graduate studying at one canadian university coming Fall. I have passed TOEFL today, and my final score will not be enough for admission. It has to be between 153 and 217. I am considering the idea to come to the university for work during 1 year and then I will try to apply again with my new TOEFL score. Actually, if I work this time, it can make me financially more stable (it's important) and I can also improve my language proficiency and increase my score. To tell the truth, I don't want to waste time being out of work... What would you reccomend me? And second, if graduate studying lasts 5 years at certain university, is it possible to assert my PhD before? I mean, can I get PhD degree before I finish my studying? Thanks a lot in advance! Many students have to live with roommates while going to school or university. What are some of the important qualities of a good roommate? Use specific reasons and examples to explain why these qualities are important. During studying at Moscow State University all nonresident students should live in a student dormitories. First several years every three students are usually settled in a one room, and living by oneself in a separate room is almost impossible especially for first-year students. If you are a freshman, you do not have a possibility to choose a good roommate to live with, but next year it is becoming a burning question for all of us. Actually, it is not an easy matter to find an appropriate roommate. But sometimes it becomes possible if you follow some rules. Then I was a freshman and my first year at the university was going over, I followed two rules. First rule you should follow, it is not enough just to know some person. It is very obligatory that chosen person is your friend and you know him for a long time, at least for one year. If you do not know the person not sufficiently, there can be some misunderstandings between you and that person. It will make your life in a dormitory awful because your character may differ from character your gay. It can be impossible to decide many common problems. For example, if you need to learn some subject, your roommate can listen to music loudly at the same time and you cannot make him give up listening to music because of some dorm rules. Of course you can say him make the music a little quite, he can do it and also can not. This is only one example of the situation we can face living it the students dormitory. To tell the truth I could continue listing endlessly. Anyway, this is the situation when you did know the person and he became not good for you. But the other good side of the situation is also possible. Second rule, the person you know is obligatory must be ideally like you. He must be like your best friend. In this case, you can avoid many problem living with him, and furthermore, make your life in a student dormitory very interesting and fun, because there is no better than your good friend. Choosing a good roommate is one of the problem for many university students, who are deciding to live in a student dormitory, can face. Deciding this problem, they can avoid many other difficulties during a studying year. I would say, of course, that this is should be an experience. The Internet is one of the most important technological advances in the last 20 years. But many people believe that the Internet is not all good, and where are some problems with the Internet. In this essay I argue that the Internet has been the mostly positive thing for students around the world. I will talk about two reasons why this is true. The first reason why the Internet is good for students is because it gives them instant access. We can find hundreds of information about everything. The Internet works like the search engine. And we know that is true. For example, we can use Google or Yahoo if we want to find information about any university, about the movie theater in our city and check if the interested movie is being performed tonight; we can also find any kind of information about places to visit or about different countries. So we can study foreign culture just sitting in our home. We can get any other types of useful information about the schedules in airport, bus terminal. And on the top of everything, the Internet provides us with the ability to communicate this the other people if they are too far from you. The second reason, the Internet makes students more interested in learning. I believe it make them more motivated. The Internet has a huge number of advantages, which allow students to learn and study themselves. As I have already mentioned, there are almost any kind of information can be found in the Internet. For instance, if someone wants to learn foreign language, he or she can find lots of information about grammar, electronic books and even to be able to listen to news on the radio, educational programs and watch TV. Summing all this up, the Internet has provided students with many advantages. This includes instant access to many types of information and making the students more motivated and interested in their studies. The Internet is changing the way how the people study. And I am sure that in 20 years from now there will be new technologies that will change the way who many universities operate.

Please help me with one question. I'm practicing TOEFL tests from Cambridge University Press. I think that the English accent is good enough there, I can understand a lot. But recently I tried PowerPrep TOEFL tests. The quality of audio wasn't very good; there was a slight noise and unclear speech. The accent was similar to British but I'm not sure. What can I actually expect on the real exam: speech like in PPToefl or in Cambridge TOEFL? PS British accent is hard to understand for me I sincerely hope that on my exam speech will be clear with a good quality of sound... I know that it should be North American accent. I don't undestand why in PPTOEFL is so unclear speech. And at the same time everybody says that the real exam is very similar to PPTOEFL

Are there any English textbooks about how to write essays? Could you recommend something? Actually, I have just general tips and general information on this question from Cliffs Toefl Preparation. I will wonder if I can find something more detailed. Thanks in advance!
