730 (47Q/44V) :D
Phew! I am relieved and happy with my score. I want to thank everyone here—I really think it is a wonderful community, where people with so many different situations and backgrounds help each other progress towards a common goal. I first found out about testmagic a couple months ago, from my older brother who is prepping for the GRE. Here’s my GMAT progress:
June- began studying with Princeton Review’s “Cracking the GMAT.” I felt like the book was easy, so I felt confident. Did the practice tests (4) and scores ranged from 640-690. I am aiming for a top MBA program, so I knew this was not good enough. Realizing I needed to be practicing more challenging questions, I completed the Kaplan GMAT 800 book. The problems were more difficult. I think it was a valuable book, especially for practice on the sentence corrections. I took some more practice tests and was scoring around 680-710.
July- Test date was July 15. Bought 5 on-line tests from 800score.com. I actually did not like these tests, for whatever reason, I felt like the problems were more challenging not because they were more difficult but because of the format/wording (though it is quite possible that was all in my head). My scores ranged from 640-690.
July 15: GMAT #1, scored 690. Not good enough, registered for GMAt #2 on (today) August 23. I ordered the Official Guide to the GMAT (the one on mba.com, but bought through amazon, better deal). I bought the general book (1100 problems) and the math version too (300). I took a week off after GMAT #1. I actually think this was one of the best decisions I made. I believe that my brain was still “processing” GMAT material during that time, and when I began studying again, everything seemed amazingly more clear. I was prepared to focus for the next month. Since that point, I have been studying an hour before work and 1.50-2 hrs. at night. I only did two full practice exams between GMAT #1 and GMAT #2. One of the things I concluded was, instead of focusing my efforts as much on my pacing for the test, if I took the time to understand the concepts better, then the timing would not be an issue. Basically, I did lots of practice problems, and I really like the “Official Guide” books (complemented by problems from testmagic, of course). I did the Kaplan Diagnostic at a test center two weekends ago and scored a 710. Last weekend, I did a powerprep and scored a 730.
Today: That pretty much brings me to today. I definitely backed off on the studying the past couple of days and got more rest. My faith has been a very important part of this process. I was able to take the test today much more confident and relaxed. I am very happy with my 730. Thanks again to everyone on here and good luck to you all!
