  1. Profile: Gre: 770 Q, 510 V, 5.0 A GPA: Overall: 3.78 Major: Math Classes: (all undergrad- highest grade is A) Math: Calc I,II (AP), III (A), Matrix Algebra (A), Continuous Probability (A-), Business Stats (A-), Discrete Mathematics (A-), Linear Modeling (B+), ODE (IP), Linear Algebra (IP), Discrete Probability (IP), Math Stats II (IP) Econ: Intro Macro (A), Intro Micro (B+), Intermed Macro (A), Intermed Micro (A), Advanced Macro Topics (A), Financial Markets (A-) Type of Undergrad: small business school in the northeast Research Experience: Not much- did a thesis for the advanced macro class. Teaching Experience: Was a tutor in the school's athletic dept. for economics and math LORs: Econ professor (PhD Oregon) who was my adviser and taught me intermed macro and advanced macro. Chair of econ dept. (PhD Rutgers), had for Intermed. Micro. Math Prof (PhD Rhode Island) who I had for Calc III, ODE, Linear Algebra. Mentioned that she was confident I'd do well in the important classes I hadn't finished (Linear Algebra and ODE). Also helped me with a lot of the math topics in my advanced macro thesis SoP: Nothing too fantastic, mentioned a couple professors from each school whose work I found interesting. Graduating in 3 years, so I mentioned that as the reason why I was taking stats, linear algebra, and ODE right now. Interests: Macro topics for sure, after that I don't really know. Maybe growth, development, labor. Admissions Decisions Admitted w/funding: UNC-CH, Indiana, ASU Admitted w/o funding: Rutgers, Virginia Rejected: BU, BC, Georgetown, Rochester, WUSTL Heading to ASU. What would I have done differently? I ask myself this question a lot. There are definitely holes in my application (theoretical math as the biggest). At the same time, I wasn't sure I would be willing to put off my plans for another few years to get more math. I also didn't want to wait to get my IP math classes' grades for personal reasons. Looking back on it, the biggest thing I should have done would have been to pick a better undergrad school, with more available math classes. My school didn't offer RA, topology, etc. I was rather late to the game in deciding to pursue a PhD, which definitely was tough juggle with early graduation. I ended up packing a lot of math into these last 2 semesters. Overall, given the circumstances, I'm pretty happy. Best of luck everyone!
  2. Just got an email from BC saying that there is only 1 position left in the class that they are trying to fill. I'm heading to ASU, good luck to anyone still waiting!
  3. I posted this on the BC thread, but I'd really like some advice from the general population. I'm waiting for BC and have a funded offer at ASU that I plan on accepting if BC can't come through for me. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go to ASU, but BC is better for a variety of reasons for me. Am I better off accepting ASU's offer and then explaining my situation afterwards if BC gives me admissions/funding (I have no idea how likely this is)? Or should I ask for an extension from ASU, explain my situation, and hope for the best? Thanks for the help!
  4. For those of you who would go to BC (or any other school) and are currently on the wait list- Do you plan on accepting another offer on Monday and then declining the offer if BC comes up with something? Do you plan on asking for an extension from your other option(s)? I'm a little confused as what to do in this situation.
  5. Did any of you on the wait list receive any information about your spot on the list? I was told that there was no information available, because they're not sure who from the wait list is still interested. Thanks!
  6. Hello all, I just got another email from BC, asking me if I was still interested in the program. He also said they will be making "several" addition offers of admission. I was just wondering if anyone else planned on turning down their offers or wait list spots. At this point, I have only BC and ASU left (BC would be better for a variety of personal and academic reasons), and am trying to decide whether or not it is worth it to ask ASU for an extension of the deadline. If anyone has any information or experience in things like this, advice would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks!
  7. I'm heading to ASU. The only reason it took this long was because I was debating whether or not I would be interested in monetary. In the end, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to work with the likes of Prescott and Rogerson.
  8. IHateGRE- I was wondering if you'd be willing to expand on your thoughts. I'm debating between ASU, Indiana, and UNC (interested in macro), and I'm pretty close to declining the UNC offer. I'm just wondering if anyone can give any info, good or bad, regarding the school and its macro group.
  9. Hello everyone- I'm hoping to make a decision by the end of the week, and thought I'd elicit some advice here. My choices are ASU, UNC-CH, and Indiana, and I'm interested in macro. Right now, I'm leaning towards ASU (it's also the only one I've visited), but I'm wondering if anyone disagrees with my choice on the basis of academics. I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks everyone!
  10. I emailed about 2 weeks ago asking for any updates, and I was told I would hear "very soon" about a decision. I haven't heard anything yet, and it's the only school where I'm still not sure what to make of it. Do you think I should expect a rejection at this point or are there still more to be sent out? Thanks
  11. I'm on the waitlist, but Professor Belsley told me that I'm not "extremely high on the waitlist," and not to "pass up good opportunities from other schools." However, I would love to go there, so I plan on holding off any decisions until the last possible moment.

nonono- Just got an email from Sonya Woolley saying that my application is still under review, and that they still have "plenty" of offers left to send out. She also said I should hear back shortly. Good luck!
  13. No update on my status. Mine is a TA/RA type thing too, I must have misread it or something. You know how it is, you just kind of skim offer letters...or something
