  1. I did my Bachelors of Commerce ( B.Com) and Masters from University of Mumbai, India. I have a question related to transcripts: What does the university mean, when it asks to submit all the transcripts of post secondary education. Am I required to send the 10th( SSC) and 12th (HSC) transcripts too. Please advise. It will be a great help to me.
  2. Hi ! I wanted to know if there's anyone, who is pursuing graduate studies on an H4 visa. I am applying for Fall 2007. Also, I want to know if financial aid is available when one studies on an H4 visa? If anyone can throw light on this matter, it would be of great help.
  3. My Prep time: 2 months. Books that will help you are kaplan and longman. the cd's of these books will give you the essential practice. ETS book will only give you test info, its good to refer but it doesn't provide actual comp test practice Just go through this forum and u will find plenty of advice. all the best
  4. tips for writing: you can try writing an essay daily. I love to write, looks like that's what worked for me. For the integrated writing task, be very attentive and take down notes. Most of the times the reading passage and listening conversation are contrasting, so watch out for related points. All the best
  5. In speaking, i got, good in info based on personal experience, fair in campus situations and good in academic questions. Like most people I too was sacred of speaking. I could never answer the question fully in the given time. This happend on the actual test too.after seeing the sores, i realize that it's not an issue to be worried about. One week prior to the test date, I concentrated entirely on the speaking section. Practising from kaplan and longman cd. I noticed that i did well on integrated listening and speaking tasks, so i put in efforts to improve on the other speaking tasks. I made use of all strategies listed in kaplan. I suggest lots of practice and most important keep yourself calm and composed, dont panic.
  6. Saw my scores posted online today R 28, L 27, S 27, W 28 It's too good, more than expected. All the Best to all future test takers. Hey Tseprep, THANKS for the good luck
  7. The test centre is located in chicago, north clark street ( downtown area). Well, there were 19 others appearing for toefl along with me and i was the only one who faced a problem. So I would suggest use your own discretion. As for me, for the gre i am definetly not going to that test centre. yet to get my scores and am praying that they dont get cancelled.
  8. this is a great prep writeup. I am going to begin my gre prep and using this forum for guidelines. Can anyone suggest how many hours of study is needed per day? I have only 2.5 months to prepare. Would appreciate your advice[clap]
  9. Tino, thanks for the independent parties update. Yes, I mean I lost my personal time. The testing centre was in chicago. first of all it's difficult finding a parking place and when you find one, you got to pay for it by the hour I couldn't research the test location. The location is 2 1/2 hours from place. I thought, better to use the 5hrs journey time for study. Finally, after the kind of experience I had with the test; I don't want to repeat the toefl iBT.
  10. I took the toefl ibt in Sept. As expected reading was tough, listening, speaking, writing easy. But I faced a different kind of problem.40 mins of my time were wasted. As the speaking section starts, the test taker is supposed to answer a question that sets the microphone. In my case the microphone didn't recognize my voice. I tried again without success.Raised my hand for assistance. no one came to assist. I went out of the room and spoke to the supervisor. As per her,my voice wasn't loud enough and asked me to keep trying. I went back and tried again and again, still no success. The supervisor wouldn't move from her seat, just gave me weird gestures. This time i went back to the supervisor, she said there's nothing she could do. At this point I requested help from an attendant who was standing nearby (her job was to escort students from hall to the supervisors table). I asked her if she could help with this problem. This lady stood near my cubicle as I attempted the microphone testing question. Later, she changed the headset and made adjustments to the microphone. At this point my speech got recognized and the microphone was set. Due to this delay the test that i was supposed to finish at 2pm, got over at 2:40 pm. REMEMBER: the toefl bulletin say, raise your hand for assistance, they forgot to mention " DON'T EXPECT ASSISTANCE JUST BECAUSE YOU RAISED HAND). To the Test Makers: We students put in lots of time, money and efforts to prepare for the toefl test. Please appoint supervisors who are oriented towards their work. Such cold response affects the test takers and demoralizes.
