That thing might be right because one of my recommenders constantly suggest that I should improve my English communication skills. Perhaps, he implicitly told me try to avoid that situation, which, I mean, Chinese students do work with the rest of their class.

So, 60 is not a big number if we do not forget that some applicants would go to Business Schools, like Stanford GSB and HBS.

You are better than me in almost every respect. And do not give up your academic dream if you really have one ! I was frustrated by almost everything and everyone around me in the past 7 years but I did not give up. BTW, I guess I will keep being frustrated in future (in another way) :) Don't give up if you really want to have one academic career !

You will find it usefull from lots of places if you do theory, for instance, Milgrom and Segal (2002) on Envelope Theorem and the often cited textbook "optimization by vector space method"
