  1. Hey Studen01, I already told you I am super strong in Math. Advice for you: Use rough paper, fill in values instead of solving it the normal mathematical way. Does this help?
  2. For going from 49 to 51 in Maths, start using the rough paper. For me, I was scoring 49/50 usually. Then I realised that I was completing the math in 30 min with 45 min more remaining on the test. Later, I realised that the one to 3 questinos I get wrong were due to some silly mistake. So I started using rough paper, if something looks tricky to me (usually progressions/permutations), I will put in values for 5 consecutive integers (start one with an odd, another with even, another with zero) and see if the premise still fits. This way I got to 50 min of math time and got upto 51 overall......I think my GMAT exam had really one tricky question overall, most others were fruit... Hope this helps.
  3. Took the test on Dec 11th. Put a 770, with M 51, V 44. I really really thought I had all correct in Maths, dont know why 51 still. Maybe I could have put a 780, had just 1 min for my last two verbal questions, both CR, just took a random fluke :( But with 770, Iam indeed overjoyed, no cribs . Prep advice: Iam an IIT grad, quant was super powerful, didnt do anything apart from Kaplan tests and OG 11 for that. weakest subjects: CR + SC SC prep: Manhattan SC Review (made the single largest difference between 720 and a 770) CR prep: Princeton Review's book (great CR advice) Apart from this, I only did OG11 and took atleast 10 tests overall, powerprep, gmatprep, princeton, kaplan. More replies later , bit busy finishing my apps. RG
  4. Lucky you,nitinv.......Good luck with your apps too
  5. Thanks GBong for the quick feedback. I will address it in a way that appeals more :)
  6. Congrats MRD, Awesome job. Iam applying there for R2, fall 2007. Hope I get lucky, Your advise is very invaluable on this forum..... Cheers, RG
  7. In my essay , Iam just going to emphasise that I was not yet another Java coder/App analyst. I was working extremely closely with the GE FP&A team to deploy the largest fixed assets platform in the world. I did not write single piece of code, but had a team of 5 which I was leading to do it. My role was chiefly to understand the GAAP, the depreciation rules there, and convince them of a solution design using technology. A bit of "Business Analyst" in tech parlance. The other instance was in sales digitization, the technology was old, but our penetration with customers was just 15%, by raising it 40% we saved 100k $ in annual costs and rised digital orders to $x hundred million. Again, the difference here, I have vendors in 3 continents doing the tech work for me, i was meeting customers (large GE customers), convincing them of the benefits of digitizing and why now, giving pricing discounts with my sales mgr to them, that kinda stuff. Thanks for your feedback again, GMATBong. I will try not to harp too much on the differences here. Also, GMATBong, one question: You told six sigma is geeky. I really want to start a Six Sigma club in the B-school I want to join. Six Sigma is not just manufacturing and does not start and end with Z-scores and a chi-square test. There are so many tools which are used effectively across various verticals. For ex, risk analysis tools, customer collection surveys, stability charts, and many other......it can help in structured analysis in any circumstance a lot. Experiences of a GE Black Belt here :)
  8. Nitin, i have my UG transcripts already in hard copy with me. TOEFL really sucks man.......they didnt let me waive it inspite of English UG. Iam not able to find any more dates for TOEFL in India this year. GMATBond/Anyone- is it worthwhile asking Kellogg to consider my app for roundn 2 without TOEFL if I promise to write Toefl in Jan? I already wrote TOEFL in 2003 for my MS, that score is not valid anymore :( please help, I do want to apply to Kellogg if not for this stupid rule;
  9. For all R2 M7 applicants- 1. Apart from Kellogg, which requires transcripts to be mailed (hard copy) to them, does any of the other M7 schools require any hard copy? Mostly, the online app alone should be sufficient, right? 2. Again, apart from Kellogg, does any other school require the TOEFL if you studied in English medium in your UG? Thanks, RG
  10. Thanks GMAT Bong. I will give it my best shot, i still consider the IMLP to be very very different from a normal IT background. We did courses very similar to B-school, studying case studies for a week, pitching to real GE leaders, getting funding for our projects and executing them with a technology within a week. Basically, it was "learning by doing" even in coursework. And i think a lot of the ex-culs have some great battles and fights to speak about, I hope the essay clarifies things better. Thanks once again for your inputs.
  11. I wish I never got the above as a reading comp exercise on the GMAT ;)
  12. Forgot to add other complete things: Academic addendum: Scholarship from IIT M for coming in Top 200 at JEE Maths Olympiad finalist Fellowship from Indian Academy of sciences Joint patent with a Bio informatic company Ex-culs: Coordinated 3 events in our literary and tech fests Started a six sigma club in GE Got 4 management awards within 2 years all for exceptional performance- from a CIO of a 30 billion dollar business. Weird factors: Climbed a 12000 ft mountain in the shivaliks, did rafting on a class 3 rapid (Sutlej river) and skiied (not sure if the word is spelt right) on the French alps last year. Thanks, Ramji
  13. Nitinv,gurdip- on the GPA, Iam not sure if your calculations are acceptable. I had this rule earlier when I applied for MS/Ph.D . At my college, we have a 10 point CGPA. Schools asked for (x+2)/3 In most B-schools, they just ask you to report your actual GPA/percentage as it is. Plus, its not fair to compare yourself as a % of the topper. Most univs dont give out topper's percentage or the rank or percentile in the class.
  14. Hi GMAT Bong, The usual profile evaluation question from me too: Age: 25 GmAT: 770, (M 51, V 44) Company: General Electric I worked on their Information Management Leadership Program. 4 distinct work rotations across 4 different business areas (most of the projects saved atleast a 100k $ with systems supporting more than 100 million $ each). INternational experience in Singapore, USA and Hungary. Also , a trained Six Sigma Black Belt. Courses learnt in the IMLP: Project Management, Business Dynamics, Financial skills, Presentation skills Work extra curriculars: Lead the quiz club at office, write for the Global IT Newsletter, led a Rotation Quality and Professional Development committee, and headed my business for a Best practice sharing committee. Previous profile: IIT Madras Electrical Engineering (3.4 CGPA)- University does not officially award any rank. Awarded scholarship for being in the Top 2% of the JEE Rankers Regional Mathematics Olympiad finalist Awarded fellowship by the Indian Academy of sciences Own a joint patent with a large IT company in my internship Ex-culs: Represented GE on television in a quiz show on CNBC Literary secretary of hostel in IIT M, Just a Minute (JAM) - speaking competition winner, winner of many other literary activities in contests around INdia Member of the soccer team at GE. Helped setup a Community Radio station on my campus. Iam applying to Harvard, Wharton, STanford , Chicago. Kellogg is tentative, they insist on the TOEFL, I dont think I can write Toefl anymore for this year. They refused to waive it so far :( What are my chances? What should I focus on more here? My recommenders : One of them is a IT director, one is a org& staffing mgr in the US, one is my international boss in Hungary.
