  1. Congratulations and best of luck with your apps What is your math percentile? If it is above 80, no problem. Otherwise, I guess, as you are from liberal arts background & you have comparatively lower math score, you need to find some other way to explain adcom about your quant skills!!!
  2. I will send that doc to your mail ID. I didn't note any other websites. But I recommend you to list down the quant areas which are commonly tested in GMAT and work on them one by one by searching on the net.
  3. GMATPrep is the official GMAT test software. It exactly represents the real exam in terms of screen and difficulty levels of questions. You can download it from http://www.mba.com
  4. Started my preparation in March. Initially booked my exam date in May but postponed it due to some work related travel. 6 months is more than enough. Twinsplitter's post is a good way to start. Also take PowerPrep exam to see where you stand and to identify your weak areas. Best of luck
  5. Sets verbal is quite similar to real exam. But check the answers in forum (most of them are discussed here) even if your answer matches with the key. Depending on time available, start from 31 and comeback! Most of the quant questions in Sets represents medium level difficulty (may be around Q49). This is my opinion. A lot depends on your confidence on exam day and also your luck on exam day!!
  6. You can get a 51 with 5 incorrect answers, but they should be after 25th question and they all shouldn't happen together. Up to 3 incorrect answers can get you a 51 in most of the cases! For verbal, assuming rest of the 16Qs are incorrect, it is very difficult to cross 700. It solely depends on where did you make those 16 mistakes and also which question type. CR and RC carry more weightage!
  7. Over 90% of Powerprep questions are from OG. You should take it during initial days of your GMAT preparation so that you will know your weak areas! Even in GMATPrep some questions are from OG. We can not do anything about it!
  8. During practice, I never maintained any timing for SC questions! My aim is to find all possible errors in the given sentence and also in all the wrong answer choices! I did only OG10 & OG11. I started my SC preparation with Manhattan SC guide and complemented it with The American Heritage Book of English Usage. 1996 (first three sections of it). Also Spidey's and Saahil's SC notes are very useful.
  9. You can download it from http://www.mba.com this thread has got information on the list of Quant questions http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-problem-solving/69674-200-gmatprep-qs-clintonn-other-gmatprep-databank.html Go through these questions during the last 10days of preparation and also after finishing your 2 Gprep exams. Otherwise your scores will be inflated!! Instead of reinstalling the Gprep everytime to get new questions, there is a simple way to start a new test. Go to GMATPrep\exams\ folder on your computer and delete the files Practice Test 1.xact and Practice Test 1.log (these files are created when you start a exam). Then you are set to take a new exam. Instead of completely deleting these files you can copy them to some other location so that when you want to review the old test at a later time, you can simply copy those files back to the exam folder and review your exam.
  10. This month.... I didn't buy them. Just registered in one of their free virtual session (thanks to the thread started by mfeaspire) and got access to them for one month!!
  11. This list of quant formulae may be useful for some of you!!!quant revision.pdf
  12. I may not be the right person for verbal :) For verbal, practice, practice and more practice is needed to improve. Revise OG10 & OG11 to such a level that you should be able to tell what is wrong with each choice (as given in the original explanation) I don't know whether you are aware of this... I read a lot from this excellent site The American Heritage Book of English Usage. 1996 especially the first three sections on Grammar, Style and Word choice. I feel it is the best resource available on American English Usage!
  13. I forgot to mention one thing. Go through the A2Z test debrief post. He uploaded very good docs. 75% of the questions on the real GMAT are of same level as the level of problems in those docs
  14. I missed your name. Thanks for posting many good questions on the forum!
  15. I am finished with this exam. It is my first attempt and I am happy with the result. Thanks to the members of this forum. I can recollect some of their names (Don’t shoot me if you don’t see your name :D). Thanks to Sripada, Thankont (when are you planning to take the exam?), Asterix@cyprus, mfeaspire, Jaybird etc…. I didn’t use the verbal forums well. I didn’t like the way people post answers there (agree with ‘A’, etc….). I understand it is tough to post an explanation to a verbal question but the poster is not expecting to see the OA as a reply!! I request Erin and 800Bob to participate more in verbal forums!!! Materials used: OG10, OG11, Kaplan800, Manhattan SC guide, Spidey’s and Sahil’s notes on verbal. Many websites for quant (wikipedia.org etc..). If I am not clear about any topic in quant, I used to read the theory first. It hardly takes 30min to understand. Practice test scores: PP1 – 690 (before starting prep) PP2 – 740 Gprep1 – 740 MGMAT1- 730 MGMAT2 – 750 MGMAT3 – 750 MGMAT4 – 800 (Stopped it after this) Gprep2 – 770 Sets – Verbal around 4-9 mistakes per set and Quant – 0-2 mistakes per set. MGMAT quant is out of scope for GMAT. SCs were good. CRs and RCs… forget about them. Real Exam: Quant becomes tough when you reach around 15th question. I fell into those DS traps somewhere.:( In verbal, I got around 3-4 questions from either Gprep or from OG. SCs were similar to Gprep. I feel Gprep SCs were tougher than SCs in OG. CRs and RCs are similar to OG questions. Only regret is ... 770 was within reach but goofed up in the initial questions of the verbal. Got two SCs as the first questions... I couldn't make head or tail of them ;) Do all the questions from GPrep. There are more than 175 quant questions and an equal number of different verbal questions. Many questions in the real exam are similar to those questions!!! Same concepts are tested. Boldface question has got little significance. If you finish your quant within 60min, you can see that question as your first question!!! I took Gprep 6 times and every time I got a bold faced question in the first 3 questions. Irrespective of what GMAC says, verbal CRs and RCs becomes tougher, if you finish your quant within 60min. (based on my experience with both real test and Gprep) Don't spend too much time on probability questions. It took 30secs each for me to finish the 2 questions I got! Now, I am ready to answer any questions regarding materials or comparisons among different tests etc….
  16. It is discussed many times..... h(n) = 2*4*6*...n = 2* (1*2*3*4*....) h(100)= 2* (1*2*3*....50) Now for any number up to 50, [h(100) + 1] divided by that number will give us a remainder of '1' so, p > 40 is the answer choice!!
  17. Relative speed of the cyclist is 20-4 =16miles per hour He travels 5 minutes with this speed (because hiker is also walking in those 5 minutes) ==> 16/60 * 5 = 4/3 miles is the distance between them when the cyclist stopped. Now hiker travels this 4/3 miles in (4/3)/(4/60) minutes = 20minutes = time of waiting for cyclist So, C
  18. Correct form of question is .... If n is a non-negative integer such that 12^n is a divisor of 3,176,793, what is the value of n^12 – 12^n ?
  19. Lets take a set of values... {1,1,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,5,5} you are considering only {1,2,3,4,5} and then saying that median is 3 where as real median of the above set is '2'. We should not exclude those repetitions.
  20. When we say there are 25 projects with 1 member, we need to list all of them. Same is the case with other projects. Considering your example, first 25 cases will be equal to '1', next 10 cases will be '2' etc.... Either the middle value or average of the middle values remains '3'!
  21. Your formula is correct. 2*r=diameter=18 (given in the question stem). I used the same!!!
  22. It is one of those 'Sets' questions. OA is wrong.
  23. Answer should be 'C'. Median is the middle number and it will be always '3' in this case. I don't see any problem with that.
