  1. guys, many on the waiting list are complaining that there is no hope for them, well I'm the living proof that there is always hope. Last year at least another guy was admitted from the waiting list, so don't lose hope and good luck!
  2. Yes, it is 15 of april, I'm sorry! Noone here is asked to leave, a few people once in a while decide to leave, but for personal reasons. Graduate students are very happy in general, it's a really relaxed environment, professors keep saying that grades do not matter and encourage students to attend seminars, (above all the lunch seminars, which are weekly lunches during which students present their projects), have ideas and so on. There is some pressure because students here are extremely brilliant, some have publications already in the second year, and some have cvs which look better than those of some assistant professors; but generally speaking it's a relaxed environment. My stipend is exactly the one mentioned by someone before, I don't know whether it will be the same this year or not. About NWU, it's an outstanding department, I wouldn't really try to convince you guys not to go there, actually all my professors told me to go there before I got into harvard. It just seemed to be a really hard place to endure, but you'll make up your mind when you go to visit it there. I have no information on how prof athey and laibson are contacting people. I don't know when they started or when they'll stop. I don't know if they are working this weekend or if they stopped the phone calls and will restart monday. I'm sorry for the painful situation most of you are in, I totally understand, I lived the same experience last year
  3. congratulations to all the admitted, i'm a first year student at harvard, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions if you have some. good luck to those who haven't already heard from here, prof athey and prof laibson are hard workers, they may keep on calling during the weekend :) I'd like also to say a few words on my experience last year. 1. I was waitlisted in harvard and was admitted the last day, 15 march or something like that; if you are on some waitlist do not despair, wait till the end, there may still be hope. 2. About visiting days. Since I wasn't admitted at harvard at the time of visiting days, i didn't attend harvard ones; I only went to visit berkeley, yale and nwu. The university which impressed me the most was yale, they really put a lot of effort to convince you to go there, they have a lot of money, the campus is really beautiful, the department seemed a great environment, people seemed relaxed and friendly: I loved it. Berkely is obviously a dream school, but most professors I talked with told me that I should have preferred nyu or even minnesota over it. Nwu was depressing, it's top in theory, but evanston is sad and the pressure they put on students is really too much; in the end I was extremely lucky to get into harvard, I don't really know what I would have chosen. 3. About harvard. I love it here, it's an awesome place, really. People are fantastic, professors are incredibly brilliant, placement is incredible, cambridge is a wonderful town to live in, plenty of reasons to come here. good luck to everyone again and I look forward to see you here for the visiting days
  4. I couldn't go to the visit days, so I know very little; for example, is there any math camp? I can't find any mention of it on the website. Did they say something interesting? I have a proposal: why don't we create a mailing list? In my class we did it and it has proved extremely useful. I hope to hear from you before september
  5. maybe antichron can help us here ;)
  6. obviously I meant NSF, sorry
  7. Congratulations to all the admitted! Can anyone tell me when the nfs scholarships will be awarded? In March or in April?
  8. not on mine (but I received the almost-admit email)

  10. I'm in! I received an email; I have also been awarded a fellowship, tuition + 23k the first year and gsi position starting from 2nd year awesome!
  11. thanks a lot for sharing! [clap]
  12. on the gradcafe there is a reject entry and the details are: "You can check yours on the web. It is available from today. (2/28)" I checked mine, but there is no decision for me yet, I think it's a fake
  13. it seems it will be very difficult to choose, yale is yale, but columbia seems really a great place where to earn a phd. You are really like to be there Golden Rule!
  14. thank you so much dekarmeliet! [clap] Precious and nice information! I would love to go to Berkeley, it would be a dream!
