  1. Hi all, I'm a average student with good GPA but when it comes to GMAT I can't seem to understand why i keep failing! Its so annoying and frankly very degrading! My experience with GMAT beast.. Attempt 1: Score 470 Although I have to admit, I wasn't unhappy because I was working full-time and didn't really devote anytime for prep. One year of many many shocks and disappointments on the family front I had a very hard time! Any way long story short, I decided to retake GMAT and get my life in order. I think more than the desire to go to B school, my aim was to ace this and prove to myself that I'm worth something! Attempt 2: Prep time about two months, quit work! Completed OG all questions once for the first month of prep! For the second month I got MGMAT number properties, inequalities and VIC's and word translations as these were my main problem areas, so I learned. I didn't spend enough time on word translations which proved to be costly later I guess! I did work hard than the last time because I felt like I need this mentally! I had developed a respect for GMAT, it was more of test on temperament among other things, at least in my opinion! I have never been a good adaptive test taker. I don't work well in stress situations I guess, you will see as I tell my scores! I took Kaplan advanced course to better my score. The online thing. Kaplan was ongoing in the two months of my prep! These are my scores: Kaplan diagnostic : 600 CAT 2: 600 CAT 3: 620 CAt 4: 610 CAt 5: 540 CAt 6: 650 Cat 7: 610 Cat 8: 610 Cat 9 :640 Power prep 1: 600 Power prep 2:640 THE GMAT : 510 YES that is right 510!!!!!! I kept staring at the screen in disbelief because I thought after 10 practice tests I wont be surprised at the score! I'm so disgusted with me and feel like a failure, sorry guys I know everybody is trying hard here but I'm just so defeated right now! I will not however accept this and hope to try again! Has this ever happened to anyone? I thought I would get at least 600 as I was getting consistently 600 is every practice test! Just want to share the grief and get some tips from people out there who know what I'm talking about and help me for the better!

  4. Hi The followng is my profile: GMAT 720 BSEE MS Economics; Undergrad GPA - 3.8 MSEE; Grad GPA - 3.8 Work experience Blue chip firm 5 years Non-profit work Can I consider Tuck for my MBA? Or do I need to retake my GMAT? :hmm: Thanks
  5. thanks jjay for your kind words of encouragement... If you read the CR explanations in the OG thoroughly, you ought to see an imporvement in your CR score. And follow the approach that's given in the OG. Try to find what is wrong with the given CR even before going to the answer choices. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  6. I'm from an Electrical Engineering background - hardware design. The real GMAT is comparable to GMATprep. One of the SC questions, I remember, was the same as the one in OG. So GMATprep and thorough OG ought to be enough. GMATprep I - 740 (almost 2 months ago) GMATprep II - 680 (2 days before the test) GMATprep I - 740 (re-install 1 day before test) Hope this helps. Overall, GMATprep is the most accurate predictor of your GMAT score out there.
  7. One more thing... I got two fill in the blank type CR quesions as my Q39 and Q40. Please let me know if anyone had any experience with these types of Qs on the verbal.
  8. Hi all, I have been a silent reader of this forum for the past six months (and posted messages occasionally). I finished my GMAT and scored a 720 (95%). My brief background - Indian male, 6 yrs Work Experience & Design Engineer. I'm planning to retake the test in another month; I will not be able to get into TOP schools coz B-Schools compare me to other people in my demographic. Brief notes about the test: My test time was 12:00 pm as I'm not a morning person. Good night's sleep and RedBull made me very alert and allowed me to concentrate well (especially on the verbose RCs). I do not recommend RedBull to everyone; please take RedBull before a practice test and see how you do. (That is what I did.) Keys: 1. Manhattan SC guide is the ultimate teacher for those weak in verbal (I'm one of them). 2. OG Quant / OG Verbal / OG I do not know of any other source (other than this forum :)) that will help people prepare for the GMAT. Quant is not very tough but it is taxing on your time and you have to be extremely careful in not making simple and silly mistakes (which I think I did a lot and it shows in my Quant score of 49 - 89 percentile). Please be on the lookout for things that the GMAT will try to slip by you. (I'm quoting this from Manhattan GMAT SC guide and how true it is!!!!!:hmm:) As I said, none of the questions were calculation intensive and each one of them had some kind of shortcut involved. I just had to think and stumble upon that idea in less than 2mins/question. Thanks to everyone on this forum who have helped me gain insight into the GMAT. And thanks to everyone who posted their test debrief; it really helped me to get motivated and stay that way. Good luck to everyone. Let me know if you have questions. I'll probably go back to being silent again (almost) till my next test debrief.
  9. Four groups of 3 coins each (A,B,C,D) Weigh two of them say A,B If A>B, then C and D are real. Then weigh B and C If B and C are equal, then A has fake. Take two coins in A and decide the fake one. Three times scale has been used. You don't have to know whether the fake is lighter or heavier.
  10. in option B, dispose is not followed by of in option C, the verbs are not in the same form in options D and E, the meaning is modified (services replaced by repairs)
  11. Hello! Can anyone suggest a good english grammar text book for GMAT?
