  1. It might interest some of you to know that I was the one who started this thread last year when I was about to apply for my visa. My school gave me full funding and I went to the embassy with only my I-20 and a bank statement with funds not more than $2000. Tino Thank you. You were very helpful. Its almost most 10 months now since I last visited this forum At the interview the only question the consolar asked me were: 1. Are you married? I said no 2. Do you have children? I said no. The second question was sort of nonsense as she could have inferred from the first. Except maybe she was thinking I might be a womanizer which I am not. She never asked about money or anything else. but I prepared about 50 likely questions and these two questions were in there. Almost all my friends were asked questions from that list. So make sure you prepare most likely questions and answer them so you wont fumble answering questions. Then she said go and come on friday for your visa. It was as simple as that and lasted not more than 30 seconds. I laughed and left the counter. So I am almost done with the first year of my program in the US. goodluck guys and if you need any help let me know
  2. I really appreciate your analysis but I think if it was poorly written, it will not have appeared in a publication or newspaper. I made the implicit assumption that the publisher of of his publication edited and reviewed it before sending it to press. Thanks anyway.
  3. Hi Members, I have an assistanship and I know I will be working when I enroll for my program but I am wondering if I indicate on my visa form that I will be working the visa officers may misconstrue this. Should I indicate on the form that I will work in the United States?
  4. You cannot enter more than 90 days before the start of your visa.
  5. If your records are strong, don't bother to attach them. It wont hurt anyway. Goodluck in advance
  6. Don't be worried. Your proffessors will be there to teach you and teach you well. A lot of people are in similar situations because of jobs and family reasons. Good luck and just keep a positive atitude during the program.
  7. The GPA for graduate school is usually higher than the undergraduate school requirement. But the best is to contact yor graduate program adviser to inquire about the requirement especially what is required to be considered for aid.
  8. As you said, if you want to get into a top 50 program, the you are in trouble because your GRE quants score of 740 is low. But if you want to get into schools below that class then you are not in trouble (what about the 51st and 52nd schools? I think that is a matter of chance)
  9. Maths econs (matrix, calculus,) Econometrics (regression probalility etc) and a whole lot of important stuff.
  10. It will be good to get one if you can afford now
  11. No don't retake the exams. If you do you take the risk of lowering your quants score. I always say the verbal is not important for phd economics and my view has not changed one bit from that. So the answer is simple. Dont retake the exams.
  12. Have you got your visa. What were the questions and how did it go? Share your experince here for those who will be going in a few days to come and future phd forum members. I will be going soon. We from developing countries, its hell for us but I am hoping things go right for us. Goodluck and hope to hear from you.
  13. When you read the 48 laws of power. Greene makes us aware that the best way to let go thing you cannot have is to disdain them. Think of life ahead and forget about the guy. Just consider him to be dead- Yes I mean real DEATH. Life is too short to worry about such a selfish guy. You have a bright future and look more nice. Never call him and dont try to rig(fix) the relationship up again. You will end up doing more wrong and harm than treating it as a petty problem. Let him go like dead and I promise you he will never met someone like you again. good luck o.k and have a nice time.
  14. Yes I support Karina, apply to the top schools and you have a chance. I think MIT knows their course struture is enough to prepare its students for PhD in Economics
  15. Nice Veroniquaz, that is great but if we are here to write about others, I think reactor wouldn't have posted the thread.
  16. Why not contact a faculty member there for more information on the program
  17. I think the later will be more difficult in all terms than the former
  18. Tino, we appreciate your adivce and I hope you reply to my thread
  19. It is for a school in the U. S. The Sponser is my uncle and in our native sense he has the obligation to look after me. He has been my sponser throughout college.
  20. Is important in understanding the mathematical language used in economics
