  1. I am just wandering if anyone has tried the off campus search service of Georgetown Univ on line. I tried it once but I was required to log in and I didn't know where to get the password and id. Any suggestions on this would be great.
  2. Thanks for the info georgehm. I also haven't received news from Georgetown and the department via email at all. I am out of the States so I am not sure if the department/Georgetown mailed me anything. I'm in similar boat as georgehm because I won't be in DC until late July so I am abit anxious about the housing situation. I'm trying to change my flight back one week earlier to around mid july instead but not sure if this will help the searching process much or not. Thanks for all the detail information on housing market in DC from Jhai and Butler_Blue. Anybody knows if Prof. Heathcote will teach at Georgetown. In his CV, he mentions that he is on a leave at the International Finance Division at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors but I'm not sure if he is actually still with the department.
  3. Good information. Thanks so much.
  4. Looks like we r in similar situation since I'll be out of the country until the end of July so it might be tough for me too:hmm:.
  5. I've also been out of school for a year too :sleepy: so I will spend some of my time reviewing some math so that I would have a good start :D but I plan not to stress myself out before school start.
  6. Georgetown Univ: International Trade/Finance, Growth & Development
  7. Butler Blue, Are you using mainly craigslist or rent.com? I think that Georgetown's website also has posts for off-campus housing but we need to get student id and password to log in. I am also looking closely at Rosslyn and Glover Park.
  8. I was told that there were 12 acceptance before I accepted the offer so that should be 13. But, during the visit, the department mentioned that they want a smaller student group and that their target is 15.
  9. Agree, good strategy. I will likely do the same thing in DC plus the course load in first year is tough and stressful enough so I might not want other pressure.
  10. Hi juliancab, Great infos there , I was only in DC, Georgetown, Adams Morgan and Chinatown area, for a couple of days when I visit the economics department but I thought the area looked pretty nice and safe but having been in the area for such a short time does not really paint a full picture of the area. What do you think about the Georgetown area as well as Rosslyn? A friend of mine suggested Rosslyn. I have been to Adams Morgan and there are alot of places for fun there, like you said before, so I am not sure if it is so conducive for studying in that area. Thanks and later.
  11. Yeah, thx everybody for the kind advise on housing in DC as it will be an important transition for some of us. My congrat to Butler Blue, who is getting married soon. A friend of mind suggests Rosslyn since it is pretty close to Georgetown so I probably look more closely at the that if I could find a good price but nothing is certain yet. I will be abroad for about two months from mid may to mid july so I am not sure how this will affect my search but I will try to look for some and contact the landlord before I leave.
  12. I'll be attending Georgetown next Fall. Anybody going to Georgetown too? When do you guys plan to move to DC? I believe that the math camp for Georgetown runs from Mid August to the end of August. I think that Jhai and Butler Blue are also joining Georgetown. I heard from the current student during my visit that housing is expensive and they said that it would be quite cheaper if I am willing to share. I plan to start searching for housing soon but won't be in DC until late July. It would be great if current Georgetown students could give some advise on things like housing, life in DC...etc for us, new students.
  13. Hey Dunny, Wow, I also got the same email yesterday. It looks like we have serveral things in common after all since I am also holding out on ASU and BC to the last minute.
  14. Any particular reason why you left Berkeley out of the top 10?
  15. I was in similar situation. When I started out the practice test the result was not that good but it definitely improved as I did more practices. You probably heard this from alot of people but in my case, practices were major factor so just try to be patient and keep working on the problems and you will get better at it "Specialization" and I assume that you have quite a bit of time to prepare for the test. Eventhough the real GRE test might be abit harder but practices will give you the confident and familarity that will bode you well. A friend of mind did the same as Antichron, going to bookstore doing alot of practices tests and he also got perfect score so may be it is a good idea to do that. Hope this helps.
