Douggator, have you heard back from anywhere?

I am trying to decide whether its worth taking off work to go visit Maryland. Both Cornell and Maryland seem like good schools, but the money at cornell is nearly double that of maryland (when cost of living is taken into account). Is it worth taking that kind of monetary blow to go to maryland? More than anything, maryland seems much better in terms of location, but I wasn't sure if 15,000 is enough to live in college park.

app07, does your "inside source" know if not having "very high" means that there is a low chance of receiving the fellowship?

Some people (such as myself) just got "you have been placed on the waitlist..." Doesn't look good for me... (but thanks for the info)

Got Waitlisted for funding at Penn. I was wondering how people knew where they sat on the waitlist... In my letter it said the following: "You rank high among the over 600 applicants from over 60 countries that we have, though not at the very top of list. We regret, therefore, that at this time we are not able to offer you financial assistance for the academic year 2007-2008." Is that "not at the very top of list" sometimes replaced with a "and at the top of the waitlist" or is this just a form letter? Also, are those of you who were waitlisted on funding planning on visiting...or possibly going?
