  1. Thanks reactor, that's another valuable advice. So I guess we do not need to read too many books.
  2. Thank you EcoCandidate. This is exactly what I am trying to do. Please have 3 listings - one for Micoeconomic, one for Maco, one for Metrics. Thank you.
  3. Thank you Savingtheplanet, Prometheus and Reactor. All of your advices are extremely helpful. I strongly belive the books suggest by 3 of you must be read before approaching MWG. Most people find MWG difficult is either they are lack of the understanding in Micro theory or math theory. So combining the books that 3 of you suggest will certainly fill in the GAPS to get the understanding of MWG. But for one thing. Most professors usally ask the students to read at least 3 books for their courses. For example, in the MA Microeconomic class, we were told to read the following : Advanced Microeconomic - MWG Microeconomic Theory - Mas Colell Whinston & Green Acourse in Game theory - M. Osborne and A. Rubinstein Microeconomic Analysis - Varian Hall All four books for ONLY one course. Is THAT NECESSARY?? So I thought some books are better then the others in certain topics, and I am planning to read only the good topic of each books. Besides that all we have the time. Please advice.
  4. . . Dear All, Can you please tell me which books should I read before I get my hands on MWG. I know that I need a few books to fill in the GAPS before I should work on MWG. This thread will benefit everyone. Please specify the good and bad parts of each book because I know that some books are weak in certain areas and strong in other areas. AS A STUDENT WE CAN'T POSSIBLELY HAVE THE TIME TO READ ALL THE TEXT BOOKS, BUT WE CAN READ ONLY THE GOOD SECTIONS OF EACH TEXT BOOK. THUS, WE SHOULD DO A BOOK REVIEWS ON MICROECONOMIC TEXT BOOKS AND POINT OUT THE GOOD SECTION AND BAD SECTION OF EACH BOOK SO THAT EVERYONE CAN BENEFIT FROM IT. PLEASE PROVIDE THE LISTINGS AND COMMENTS!! I know the first book must be: 1) Varian Hall - Microeconomic Analysis, 3rd editions. COMMENTS: WEAK: STRONG: . . . . . . . 100) MWG - Microeconomic Theory COMMENTS: WEAK: STRONG:
  5. Wow it seems like doing a phd in economic do not make a lot of money. Most accountant who only has an undergrade and accounting designation make at least 60k to start...and phd eco makes only 42k to start? That no good.
  6. If you want to apply to graudate study, what really matter is your LAST two years' average but not the entire four years' average. Thus, if you perform well in the last two years, this will certain means a lot. Just try to apply and DO NOT give up....if you fail this year, try to retake some core courses....say if you wnat to apply for graudate study in Economic, then retake some adv. Economic courses and try to do well in it. Remeber...every program is competitive......each year there are about 400+ applicans and the University only accept about 40-45 students. So you have to try your level bes to improve your core courses...and try to get a good reference letter. I hope this will help. MICMAC
  7. I believe the 2nd round for U of T addmission is after 20th of April, because i got accepted in late march and was given the dead line to reply (accept/decline) the offer BEFORE April 20th. So the second round MUST be after 20th of April ..otherwise they will not know if there are any vacancies after that day. I HOPE THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP!
  8. I am just interest to know the return of investment for obtaing a phd Eco ? Spending five years of hard work, I wonder what are the salary ranges in US and Canada to hold a phd Eco ? Dropping out from the MBA program to pursuit a Phd Eco, I hope the salary of a phd makes will be greater then that of a MBA makes.
