  1. I graduated Magna cum Laude Cume laude 3.5 - 3.74 Magna Cum Laude 3.75- ~3.85 Summa Cum Laude ~3.85+ What does LAC mean?
  2. However, I believe the process can work in reverse. Or I am going to try and see if it does. Because of the school I received my BBA is small and unknown, without an excellent insider, I would never make the cut to get in a great business school (top 20) By getting a PhD in econ, I can prove that I can endure the rigors of that level of education, AND it would put me in a good position to TA and have a better chance on scholarships where being a TA is required. Since I will be working FT, I will have progressive experience under my belt. This is all the plan, we shall see how it pans out.
  3. I am done. I got an 1140; 670Q 470V My Q score is about 50 pts higher than my average on powerprep. My V score about 50 pts lower than powerprep. Thanks for your nice comments. I think with months of prep with a private tutor, I can probably increase my total by maybe ~150 pts, perhaps more. I am satisfied and told the PhD director. He said the score is decent, but like most things its more about my effort in the classroom than my effort on the test. Well, I am pretty satisfied. My goal wasn't met (1300) but I did meet the requirements.
  4. People are more interested in wages of drug dealers than they are the economy as a whole. Topics that levitt and others discuss are both close and easily understood by John Q. public. They are much less interesting in the velocity of money and the money supply.
  5. Thanks for the kind comments. I still have an opportunity to take the test again in July. I took several practice tests, so I know what to expect. I am just trying to refine my strategies for attacking questions.
  6. I am going a smaller, liberal arts school. The name of the school is Middle Tenneesee State University. I intend to apply to no other schools. This school is local and the classes are at night so that I may work my other job. Like I explained my previous posts, I am not quite as intelligent as most of the members of this forum. I believe what I lack in intelligence, I make up for in determination and effort.
  7. It's time that I take the GRE. It doesn't seem that I am not prepared, I just seem to lack the skills necessary to do well. I find in perplexing think I am very gifted, but taking the practice GRE makes me feel not so much. In the powerprep testing, I consistantly hand around in the 1200s with mid 600s in Q. I know that score is quite low for this forum. How close does the powerpre correlate with actual score. I purchased the Kaplan book and I consitently get sub 900 scores, however the test seems to require a calculator as I cannot divide some of those numbers with the allotted time by hand. Any last tips? I will post my score tomorrow, but I thinking I will not get the 1100 required to get in.
  8. Glad I saw this topic. I was only aware of the "book length mauscript" form of dissertations. Although more challengin research wise, I am glad I don't have to write a couple hundred pages proving my point.
  9. Or you can use one as a bridge to another. I am not a "I want to make a ton of money" kind of guy, but I want to attend a prestigious school. I am trying for a PhD to get me in a better MBA program that I would otherwise. It couldn't hurt, but I think a person with your goals should just shoot for the CFA as that takes the least amount of time.
  10. I am not very good at Math, but more importantly, I haven't taken (from what I feel on this forum) a very sufficient amount of math classes. {Calc 1 being the highest } With that being said, I expect to struggle my freshman year until I get up to speed with the classwork. I am attending a smaller, less known university where I feel I can get the extra help I need due to very small class size (10-12 people) and the professors there expect the students to not really have great backgrounds. The school is Middle Tennessee State University, not a top 100 school, but not Pheonix Online either. I am hoping (partially) that a PhD can prove to adcoms that I have the capability and skills to get a MBA at a higher tiered school. (Will it actually work, who knows) I still think I can gain a very valuable education from this school though. Good Luck and join the struggle. No matter how difficult the problem, I am sure somewhere, someone online will be willing to help you solve it as their "contribution to the community" . That is what I find most beautiful about the internet.
  11. I plan to stick with the Department of Defense after getting my PhD. Currently, we have to outsource many of our tasks or simply not complete them due to lack of skills. I am hoping that I can incorporate some of our taskings into my research. It doesn't matter if I get 100 pubs or whatever, I just feel these skills will make me more valuable to my employer.
  12. Are you suggesting that I tell the adcom that I will be writing my own letter? For some reason, I do not think that is a good idea. I tried to get a few professors but they don't really know who I am. I did well in class but I wasn't very personal with the professors. I really regret that now.
  13. I would not say he is well known the academic realm, but his rank (Colonel) is such that it would seem to be impressive.
  14. I asked my supervisor at work to write me a LoR for my PhD program (small, regional school) and he said I should write it and he will sign it. Is this common? If so, how would you suggest I come across without sounding conceited? I expected him to write some bland couple paragraph paper with just enough to get me in. Any suggestions?
