  1. Just for the sake of a counter example.. heres one Id suggest doing a masters from one of the places you mentioned or one of the canadian MAs or other palces in Europe would be Toulose, UPF, Tilburg.. and while you are at it apply to a phd programs..ideally you shouldve applied to a few mid range places this cycle..
  2. I dont think this would be a problem as I know people who have received multiple I20s, in order to attain an I20 you do have to accept a particular school..only thing at the time of processing the visa you can show the one you are going to attend..if this were possible(I know people who have done this)then there is no problem with telling the other school that you wont be attending..but this information is strictly based on students who were going for their master's.. I am not sure about the PhD programs.. hope this helped in some way though.. and hope someone here could clarify the same for PhDs..
  3. EconMsGiggle: I was having the same thought...
  4. Regarding the structure of this program, is the Master in Economic Analysis at UC3M consdered as the 1st and 2nd year of the PhD there?
  5. Oh ok..Hope things work out for you. All the best man!! :luck2:
  6. Im pretty much thinking the same.. but will probably apply for the PhD 2 yrs down the line.. need to do enough econ and math courses. Probably RA for a bit post masters. If you are going to stick to the 32-33 credits, there is room for 3 courses at Courant and the rest would have to be done at the econ dept right? There is a mandatory 24 credit to be taken from the Econ Dept
  7. Hey Mike21 Sorry to hear that.. honestly, don't blame your learning disability..Hope you have an alternate plan to pursue..
  8. Hey Everyone.. How many here are considering joining the program or have accepted the admit. If you have accepted or are considering it, what goals do you have in mind, private sector or PhD? Or anything else for that matter. Would like to know why others who have been admitted are turning it down as well. Want to kick start a fresh discussion..hoping to get new insights about the program if possible. Any comments are most welcome. Thanks!
  9. Hey Mike21 I got accepted to NYU's MA Econ on March 1st but I think this was coz I applied really early, around first/second week of January. Im sure there are other people here who are waiting/admitted to the program..
  10. adam_smtih, that page is really interesting. sadly I couldn't find other field pages.. do you know if there are other field pages.
  11. You are right, there is only one MA course from the Econ dept related to finance i.e. financial economics and at Stern there are a lot of C15 courses (finance) :) Actually check the mathematical finance/financal engg courses at Courant as well, Im sure you'll like them.. hence your courses at Stern and Courant could be finance related unless they have lot of overlapping course material and you really like your pure math. Which ones would you prefer..the pure math or financial math courses? hmmm.. do tell once you get a response from NYU about the extra credits..thanks..
  12. Hey.. I have an admit from NYU as well and have been checking their website for a while now.. It is mandatory to do 24 credits from the MA courses.. some courses are 3 credits(MA only) and some are 4 (i.e the MA/PhD courses, the PhD courses are 4 credits).. and many of the MA courses are finance courses (please check them out for yourself i.e. if they suit your interests) As you already know 8-9 credits can be taken outside the dept..which leaves you with a max of 3 courses from outside the dept.. Im wondering if this credit limit can be extended to 12 or prolly 15?.. Most MA courses are taught by adjunct faculty i.e they are professional economsits who also teach. This actually can be a good learning experience for people in the course interested in the private sector.. the real world at the moment is going thruogh a recession(US).. so wouldnt that mean the job market is on a slump?.. so it would be tough getting into the private sector right?..
  13. Hey EconMsGiggle.. do I assume from your signature that you got into UMN?.. Thanks for the info. I have yet to hear from Duke! :hmm::(

  20. Thanks for the info Semischolastic!.. can breath for a while.. :) Last year too there were a few entries on the gradcafe around the same time and despite the change in application volumes Gradcafe does have a few Duke MA entries at the moment..:hmm: Signal08 did get an admit too, Duke must've send admits to their top candidates first i presume..
