I just really want to know how much time I need to dedicate to studying for chemistry honors. What I should study in the summer to prep. If anyone wants to help me out even further, please PM me and I'll send you the syllabus, labs, and test examples that the teacher gives out. I would then like to know what is the best way to approach this kind of schedule. For you people who are experienced with chemistry, you can probably tell the difficulty if I provided you with what I said above right? I even have the assignments schedule so please PM me for this information. thanks! :)

I'm planning on taking Chemistry honors and they teach AP Chem material. However the teacher doesn't teach so I basically need to self-study for the hard tests, labs, and quizzes he gives frequently. Is it possible to spend only an hour each day to keep up with the class?? How long do you really need to study AP Chemistry for to get A's in your class and a 5 on the AP exam?? I have taken AP Physics B and will be taking AP BIO and APES concurrently with Chemistry Honors. I have self-studied some of fluids, thermodynaimcs, heat, and atomic/nuclear physics already for the AP Exam. Thermodynaimcs and heat took me only a few days to study (crammed by studying the WHOLE day), I understood most of it too. Atomic/nuclear I spend about a week to grasp everything, photoelectric effect, nuclear reactions, E=mc^2 and understood it pretty well. When I attempted to self study these sections, they seemed HARD to me at first and I couldn't get anything. I had to look at many sources to firmly comprehend the basics, after that I got everything down by rereading many times and practicing. Since I'm able to self study thermodynamics in a couple days, and the others in less than a few weeks while understanding most of the material. Will I be able to take on Chemistry Honors (which teaches like an AP class) by myself with no instruction from the teacher at all? Do you guys have any links to sites, especially podcasts, that allow you to understand the material? I really want to tackle this class so I'm starting to get insight/advice now. Chemistry honors should be taken with AP Bio and APES right? Should I not put chemistry off until my senior year or a community college? Thanks guys! =]

AP Computer Science A VS. Chemistry Honors Which class should I take Junior year? Which do you think will be the most beneficial for someone who is planning to apply to top UCs and Stanford (engineering/science major). Here are the pros and cons that I think will help me/you decide: **Both AP Comp Sci are taught by a teacher who doesn't teach at all. His tests and pop quizzes are extremely hard. His class has frequent labs that are worth many points. AP Comp Sci Pros: -looks more "advanced" with AP label , haha. -I'm interested (is it interesting for you guys?) I just don't want to read those BORING books. - I want to make programs (What can you make with C++/ Java, what projects have you guys made??) -SOME tests/quizzes are weighed. Most aren't Cons: - I should take the AP exam (I might get a 3 since the teacher doesn't teach) -Will not taking Chem junior year affect my chances at high caliber schools? - People say the "language" is hard to learn and understand. Is this true? -I have no experience with Java or C++ ( I've had experience with HTML) and I don't even know how they work. Chemistry Honors: Pros - I don't have to take the AP exam if I don't want to. If I do it will probably be to my benefit (i.e. I can cancel scores if I want, show if I want) -Do colleges prefer seeing this taken in your Junior year or does it not matter (just as long as you take it in your high school years right?) - I've studied SOME thermodynamics/formulas like PV=nRT, U=Q+W in AP Physics B this year. This knowledge will probably help a bit. Cons: -All tests and pop quizzes are NOT curved at all. Period. -4 people have A's out of 70 people, most have C's. A lot fail. Even the top ranked people have gotten B's in this class. -Harder to "self-study" than AP Computer science?? >>>> Since the same teacher teaches both classes, I will basically need to self study these on my own. Here's the deal: I'm currently a sophomore and I need to choose my classes for junior year. I'm taking AP Physics B this year and that is the only AP/Honors class I have taken so far. Here's what I've signed up for next year (junior year): AP Calc AB AP Bio APUSH APES Honors English 11 Honors Chemistry (Highest Chemistry class at our school) Spanish 2 However, the Honors Chemistry course is pretty hard from what I've heard. Most people get C's, good students (even a ranked 1 person) got a 90%. Only 3 people have A's out of 70 students. Many FAIL. I've heard this from a variety of students taking it this year: The teacher doesn't teach at all, he gives labs often and these take up a lot of time to do (they are a big part of your grade), he gives hard pop quizzes and extremely hard tests. About the hard pop quizzes and extremely hard tests, no one knows what to study for because he doesn't give you any study guide or tell you what to study for, the questions are mostly conceptual based and many questions aren't even in the book (?), it's like: if you do this to ____ what happens? why are ____ stinky?... That's what I've heard from other people. I'm dreading this teacher but I do want to take the class for knowledge. Does it really matter if I take it in my junior or senior year? Do engineering/medical colleges generally want to see you take a chemistry class before you apply? I REALLY don't know what to do here and I'm spending a lot of time deciding. Will I have more time senior year to spend more time in harder classes? I might take a SAT early in my senior year. It's just that with all these AP classes (my hardest course load yet), SATs(planning to prep a lot before) and SAT IIs(taking in october), and even AP exams, I don't know if I will have enough time to get a good grade in chemistry. If I take Chemistry in my junior year, I most likely will get B's in both semesters, mabye even C's (depending on how I cope with next years classes). Will getting C's drastically affect my chances at top schools? I'm planning to apply to UCB, UCLA, Stanford as a engineering, medical major. Please help me to decide on this problem. To colleges know actually how hard your school courses are? I've heard something about counselors sending information about class rigor from your school to colleges. Is this true for every school? Should I find out? (lol) I just don't want colleges to see that I'm "whipping out" by taking the hardest science class in my senior year. Does it really matter? Gah, I hate the admissions process=[ I'm really worried. Thanks.
