  1. Yes ,I recieved a long RC of greater legth than those in big book.It was about 100 -120lines.Also,I got a small RC of 30-40 lines and another of about 60-70 lines (dont exactly remeber the last one ),
  2. Thanks everybody, As I said in my earlier post ,I was done with 70-80% of norman lewis before starting to prepare for my gre. I had about 40-50 days for my prep during which I was attending college too(except for the last 15 days) ...Plus I did not prepare much for quants so I could devote that time for verbal. I just have a thing to say about wordlists.. I went through kaplan and princeton high frequency lists during my last 2 days of preparation and did not find more than 10-12 unfamiliar words. And I have talked to 5-6 people who have given GRE in the last month and NONE of them got any word out of barrons. So I would like to believe that barrons would do just fine and one should spend the remaining time improving on RCs and analogies rather than mugging up additional words because speed and accuracy in RCs can certainly be crucial for your score.
  3. Hi guys, As told by my friend golddust , I am posting a debrief about my gre. Though I am not the best person to offer an advice ,but I will write what I felt was crucial in the end. I will start with the quants section (as thats what I feel most comfortable with ) I did barrons and followed some of the orkut communties for solving quants questions.Doing all the concepts from the barrons should be more than enough ,plus practice some graphs to get the hang of it. Verbal Well,my english has not always been strong so I had a bit of hard time scoring well in this section.I had one and a half months to prepare and was through with norman lewis word list ,so I decide to start with barron word lists.I used to make flash cards for all the words I felt comfortable with and to learn the words quickly and efficiently I used to write some mnemonics ,sentences etc that helped me to recall the mening of the word. Apart from that I gave big book tests side by side.As has been written all over the forum, they are the best practice material you can get.The quality of RC is specially equal to actual GRE.From starting off with a score of 22-23 in big book test I reached to 28-29 (out of 38) with 15 days to go for my test. After that I stopped giving big book tests ,instead I started with various others such as 800score.com, kaplan ,peterson......my scores were too fluctuating to gauge anything so please dont ask about them.Just then in the last 15 days ,i focused on barrons word lists only and finished it 4-5 days before my exam. In my actual GRE I was left with 11 questions in my last 6 minutes inlcuding a RC !!So had to skim through all those questions ,otherwise the score could have been better. But nonetheless ,i am more than happy with my score as I would have accepted such a score before my exam with eyes closed. AWA section was a bit tough ,chose the wrong issue in haste but completed it eventually ......Keeping my fingers crossed for that. Just hope that the AWA doesnt spoil my overall score  P.S. -- Your GRE score can improve by as much as 30-40 points if you attempt it with a cool mind.
  4. It was ok.Gt 1500(800 Quant + 700 V) ,had only about 4-5 minutes for my last 7 verbal questions which included a RC !So gt stuck on that part otherwise cud have been better. The issue was not good ,argument went okayish.
  5. Ohh.... I did not realise it either.Anyways thanks again golddust for uploading the image ,could not reply was busy with my GRE .Finally got it over with it today

    8. Given a ladder of length 5mts and it is displaced i.e slanted downwards, such that it falls 'x' mts in height and horizontal length increases by 'y' mts. Col A: x Col B: y Can it be determined unless they have specified the angle ?
  7. file:///C:/Users/atul/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpgIn the attached figure it is asked to col A : X Col B : 60 I gt the answer as D ,as the figure does not specify that the sides are parallel hence we cant use the trigo formulae If someone differes please tell
  8. Q. What is the number of different ways in which a 4 digit number can be formed using the digits 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 with NO repetition. My answer came out to be 1680 ,but its given 840 in the source. If anyone gt 840 as the answer please tell .
  9. I was just reading another thread on this isssue and i realised that i have missed the main point. I think the statement talks about people making the use of success for social causes etc would be the best use of success. So should have included points relevant to it. Although ,I think the above points would still be valid as they outline how many people have achieved success and rather making a good use of it ,they have eneded up ruining their lives .
  10. Kindly rate this essay and give your feedback. "Many people know how to attain success ,but only a few know how tomake the best use of it ". "The most difficult thing about success is to continue being successful".This saying quite clearly expresses the speaker's claim. The speaker's claim has considerable merit when we delve deep into the different spheres of life such sports ,music and politics. To start with ,if we take a look at the sports, especially soccer ,there have been numerous cases of football stars falling prey to drugs which has ultimately led to their downfall. The example that comes immediately to mind is that of football legend diego maradona who was the main star of argentina's world cup win in 1987.Maradona accomplished unlimited fame and success but he was unable to handle it.He fell victim to drugs and as a conseuqece ruined his health completly. In the glitzy world of music and film industry ,instances of famous people unable to handle success abound.Perhaps ,the best example that comes to mind in this regard is that of Curt Cobain, the founder and lead vocalist of the rock band ,Nirvana in the 1990s.Curt Cobain achieved meteoric rise to fame but eventually he also became a drug addict. As outlined in his suicide note, he was unable to cope up with the glamorous world of music and comitted suicide at the young age of 27. The music industry is replete with similar examples where people after having achieved success have not been able to make the best use of it,on the other hannd ,success led to their downfall in personal as well as professional lives. Apart from not being able to handle success ,many people are not able to deal with Taking a glance at the film and fashion industry ,there are numerous stories where people have not able to make best use of success,im turn, they have also not been able to deal with their loss of fame .A recent bollywood movie 'Fashion ' addresses the same issues. The story was based on the life of a model who lost her mental balance after being ousted from the company she worked for.The model was found begging on the streets of new delhi which gives us another example where the person has not been able to deal with her fall to the bottom. Although ,all these examples ascertain the fact many people have not been able tohandle success, there have been numerous examples where people have not allowed success to reach their head and have used it in the best possible way.Amitabh Bachhan, for instance ,has been at the top of bollywood film industry for over 30 years ,which reflects his sheer abilities with which he has made use of fame. The example of sachin tendulkar also fits in aptly here ,who has been at the peak of success for over 20 years in cricket but still he is extremely humble. To conclude , it is quite apparent from the aforementioned examples that though many people have the qualities needed to achieve success, but only a few out of those possess the qualities needed to make the best use of it.Therefore,i whole heartedly support the speaker's claim.
  11. Hi swirlz, Although I am still a novice ,but I noticed the following points that were missing in your article - 1.The article is a bit short in my view.Just add a couple of more examples and assertions. 2.Need to a bit more assertive in stating your stance in introduction. Also conclusion needs some more elaboration 3.A couple of grammatical mistakes here and there (like in the first line ) ,but i think that should not be a major problem Apart from that the two examples you provided were good and relevant ,so just add up a few more point and examples to improve. 12. Thanks a ton goldust.I think each one of the point you made are valid ,I was also initially skeptic about flaunting my vocab, would now focus more on the organisation. Also, your comment regarding the conclusion is quite valid. Will post a couple of issues more in the next few days.Looking forward for your comments on those as well Thanks Again
  13. Hello all, I have just one week left for my GRE and the AWA section is daunting me.Below is my second attempt at writing an essay ,so please rate it and give your suggestions so that I can improve. Thanks in advance Students should not be required to take courses outside their field of study The overall content of curriculum in schools and colleges has been a point of major debate among various people. The author of the statement advocates the exclusion of courses from study that are not germane to a student's field.Although ,inclusion of supplementary courses can sometimes encumber a student in an already busy academic schedule,I tend to believe that the factors in favor of inclusion of the course clearly outnumber those against it. First and foremost ,the cardinal objective of such courses is to introduce the students to a new field which can be a nice diversion from the same type of knowledge they have been acquiring for most of part of their life.Courses such as these can help students analyse certain problems better by extrapolating valuable information from subjects other than those from their field. There are certain principles which from the basis of certain subjects but can be applied without any modification to other fields as well. Quite often ,one course of study overlaps the other as acquaintance to a subject not directly related to a students field becomes a prerequisite in solving some of the most knotty problems of his area.A personal experience comes immediately to my mind in support of this point.I was involved in a project to design an Electrocardiograph machine for recording the Electrocardiograph of a patient.Thought from an engineering point of view ,it was a simply a problem of signal processing that required me to apply engineering principles but as I realised over time,it became imperative for me to understand the basic biological principles involved which were not a part of my engineering curriculum.Hence ,if biology was introduced to me at college,it would have been certainly helpful in solving a problem in my field. Study of other subjects is quite vital from a national and cultural perspective as well. Study of history ,for instance, might seem futile at first to an engineering student, but introducing the youth of a nation to the glorious achievements of its freedom fighters for example ,is necessary to inculcate a sense of national pride and respect among the current generation. The students also need to be made cognizant of the richness of culture and diversity their country posseses. An alternative area of study can also be a source of stress buster to the students.By dint of courses on sport ,painting ,etc they get an opportunity to pursue their interests and spend time on other leisure activities which can be certainly helpful in effacing tedium and stress. The overall development of personality of an individual is also aided when a student is introduced to different fields. For example, study of sciences can aid a student of arts in comprehending the nature phenomenons better. On the flip ,study of arts can help an engineering student to fathom the aesthetics and admire it. While keeping the aforementioned points , one still needs to be mindful of the fact that inclusion of such courses implies a commensurate increase in expenditure on resources as well.In sum, the factors in support of inclusion of these courses are a clear indicator that supplementary courses outside the field of study of students help them in more ways than one and hence they should be required to undertake such courses outisde thier field of study.
